We predicted it ages ago. Once we heard about the Porsche Boxster and Cayman moving from that glorious six-cylinder powerplant to a four, we knew this would be problematic.

We held our hopes up high because we did hear it would feature a boxer four rather than a buzzy inline setup. But the early reviews are in and they're not too great — at least when it comes to the aural experience.

So, now what?

Though I know some of you will think I am mad, I am a fan of the Lotus Evora. I think it had an excellent design that's been a bit damaged by the 400's exterior additions but let's put that aside. When I piloted the last-gen Evora S, its six-cylinder sounded epic whether cruising around town or giving it the beans.

And now? Well, I'll let you decide. What do YOU make of the Lotus Evora 400's soundtrack?

Does it have you forgetting about the new 718 Cayman?

Lotus VS Porsche? Porsche for quality and engineering.

Driving a Lotus is fun, but after having driven several, I cannot imagine them being good as daily drivers. They are brilliant at the track, but they have a lack of refinement and build quality. The Porsche would make a wonderful daily driver and it's no slouch at the track. Lotus--like TVR--is a British fringe player and not a viable daily car. Loads of fun, yes, but not a Porsche beater.

I have to say I would agree with you when it comes to quality and reliability; however, there is a certain something that I got from daily driving a Lotus Evora S I did not get from a Porsche.

Would be a nice car to have in your fleet if you need a "toy."
