2007 Nissan Altima starts production

The 2007 Nissan Altima has started production today (Monday, Oct 2 2006).
-Nissan has expanded it's Smyrna, TN plant to handle the new Altima. This has created 2,000 new jobs.
When it is released to dealers in November, the Altima will feature:
- 175 hp Partial-Zero Emissions 4 cyl, good for 180 lb/ft of torque.
-or a 270hp 258lb/ft V6
-With a 6 speed manual or improved CVT transmission.

Seems a Camry-beater to me......

Also, the 2007 Altima Hybrid will make it's debut at the Orange County Auto Show(Anaheim, CA) on October 4th.

Ehh i dont know if it will be a camry fighter but on the other hand why would toyota allow nissan to use its hybrid technology when the altima competes directly at the camry

The only problem with Nissan is that they use cheap interior parts, like the leather/fabric seats. That's one reason it isn't much of a Camry fighter. I don't even think it is a Honda fighter. I have nothing against Nissan but they haven't done as well in the past as Honda and Toyota.

BTW, Nissan PAYED for the technology, it is all about $$$. Everyone is nice when they get $ put in their pockets. And it isn't even Toyota being nice but obeying a contract

The new looks is clean. Overall, the car looks less angular, and more rounded, integrated.

I can't wait to see what the Altima coupe is going to look like. There have been lots of rumours on this and I've seen some spy pix on a German site...

I've heard that Nissan took steps to make sure the interior was of higher quality.

This seems like a huge imptovement, but I don't think the Altima can match the Camry's near Lexus-like quality. Toyota won't loose too much sleep over this car. When the new Accord makes its debut next year however... well thats a different story.

Toyota sold the old hybrid technology to Nissan not Hybrid Synergy Drive,So the Camry still has a better hybrid system than the Altima...

HONDA WAS THE FIRST EVER COMPANY TO COME UP WITH HYBRID TECHNOLEGY! Then Toyota came along and stole the spotlight from Honda in 2001 when the first generation Prius came out!

Audi's claim is based on prototypes.

JCF, the first marketed hybrid was a TOYOTA, the Prius in Japan. Honda made a wise tactical decision by bringing the Insight to the US a few months before Toy brought the Prius. This is way old news people.

Will, I wouldnt be surprised if the concepts and ideas go back way further than Audi. I think Toy did some testing in the 60s or 70s. I'm sure some go back even further. Electric cars go back some hundred years, dont they?

I think the new altima looks awsome. the hybrid version will be the best looking hybrid on the market and appeal to a younger crowd.
