Infiniti To Launch "S" Badged Perfromance Models To Battle The Germans

Infiniti To Launch
Infiniti is turning up the heat with a new line-up of ‘S’ badged performance models – and is also planning a groundbreaking new variable compression engine that will offer V6 performance combined with the efficency of a diesel.

The new Infiniti Q60 coupe will arrive in the UK later this year with a 400bhp 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 S version that heralds the start of the new 'S' strategy – and it could pave the way for even more extreme Infiniti-badged cars engineered by sister brands Renaultsport or Nismo.

(Sigh). Good luck, guys. Good luck.

Just up the horsepower and slap a "sport" monicker on it, and you're off to "battle the Germans."

I'm surprised Infiniti even tries.

The red "S" has been on US Infiniti's since the G35. Is this new only for the UK? Also, in the US, the Red Sport designation was to indicate the "high performance" model. Why not be consistent? And what happened to "IPL"?

This company is all over the place.

They need to bury "Ipple" as much as Toyota needs to flush "TuRD". Infiniti has long been a mess but De nysschen made it messier.

The IPL name is reserved for the highest performance model, which won't be out until a year or two after the normal models. Just like the RS5 doesn't come out the same time as the A5/S5. Pretty simple.

So, firstly, you didn't read the article because as of now, Infiniti isn't going with an AMG or M division of high-performance. Secondly, the one IPL-badged car they've done wasn't "high performance" at all.

Well if you read my statement you would have seen I said a year to two years, which is not now. Either way I was simply answering your question as I have access to information involving them. Have a nice day.

That's not what your statement was saying and you know that. I'll leave it at that.

Until Infiniti makes a car that people actually want to be seen in - it makes little difference how fast and powerful they are. Beauty may be skin deep - but not being downright ugly would be a good start. There is a difference with Japan when it comes to styling that the rest of the world really cannot take to. China and Japan once stood for elegance - in pottery and art. Where did they go wrong?

The most obvious move for Infiniti would be to adopt the next GTR as an Infiniti. Then they could do a coupesedan from it called the Skyline. Infiniti Skyline is a name waiting to be HUGE.

I agree w/Matt. Infiniti seems stuck in 1st gear. Nothing they have ever put out I've found compelling. They ought to do something to really shake up the segment. Perhaps the Skyline Sedan would do that....

So we will soon have 'S' labeled rice burners? Cool!
