Lexus New Roadmap Replaces LS With LC500 As Flagship

Lexus has been busy in recent years with regular updates to its top products while also adding models to fill out its portfolio as it battles mano-a-mano with its German rivals. As such, it has less freshening to do than its more modest stablemate.

That said, several Lexus models will be moving to the Toyota New Global Architecture platform in coming years. Meanwhile, the new RC and coming LC 500 are leading the brand's shift to a sexier and sportier vibe.

The LS will be crucial. I think it needs to have the visual aggression of the LC with no holding back. If the LS comes out tame, it will be dead in the water.

The LC is going to have an interesting place in the market. It's going to take (at least it appears to be so) the opposite approach of the RC/RCF. Where the RC/RCF are heavier than their rivals, the LC will be (supposedly) lighter than their intended targets (6 Series and Maserati, and possibly S-Coupe/SL). And based on this, and its size and probably unusable rear seat, will it be compared to the F-type and AMG GTs?

The LC is Lexus' "E Type". It has a definite show car panache that the Germans just don't have while simultaneously making Lexus' strange styling language look like a genius move. It is unmistakably Japanese without being bland or SciFi. The rest of their lineup--however--is not so sublime.

It will be beside the point how it fares against the F Type and the AMGGT and AMGGTGTR because it will acquit itself on style that is a sublime antidote to the same old same old from Germany.

This is the kind of game changing product that Cadillac needs.

Let's see ... we have check marks underneath the lights, triangular shaped lenses, trailing metallic shapes coming from the inside corners of the triangles and going under the check marks, black teardrop vents, and—lest we not forget—the widest spindle grille ever seen on an automobile.

All this leading to the question: Why the f*ck do Toyota designers still have jobs???

They have jobs because they created a point of difference from the rest of the pack and are being rewarded in the market place. The styling may not be to everyone's taste for sure but it has caught on with a loyal following. Personally I wish BMW would take notice and be a bit more venturesome as well.

BMW and Audi need to see Lexus and Mercedes delivering on style while BMW and Audi deliver "Camry" and up the game. The Cadillac CT6 is DULL, but stylistically it is much more compelling than any Audi or BMW sedan.

I personally have never understood why the CT is in the lineup, nor the odd styling that the GS always seems to have. Lastly the V8 in the GX should really be at power and torque figure 100 units higher in each measure. I remain a fan but will always have questions.

Lexus has never been completely coherent.

The CT does not sell very well on its own, but it allows Lexus to offer a really cheap lease to get people into a Lexus, but as with the HS, the "Toyota" comes through loud and clear.

The GS is a strangely dull car with a garish face, but the GS has never been a handsome car. It's like the GS is a complete afterthought.

The GX is disastrously bad. It's an ancient truck with a high center of gravity which when coupled with the soft suspension tuning makes for a vehicle that is flat out scary in evasive maneuvers. Why the GX is based on the older than old Prado platform and not on the much better 4Runner platform, I'll never know.

I'm also of the opinion that Land Cruiser should be made into a brand to better compete with Jeep and LR/RR and let Lexus have softroaders.

How is this car parked on a city street. Have you ever seen how city drivers pull into a parking spot? That unprotected front grill will make a great bumper stop for the front car as it backs in.
