LEASE A Tesla For The Price Of A 5-Series, E-Class, A6, GS — Is This A SIGN Of A Rocky Road Ahead?
One of the great things about AutoSpies is that we allow anyone to submit content. There's only one proviso: It has to be good.

Thanks to a faithful Spy from right here in New York, we received some interesting news. Special thanks to our user mre30 who submitted this interesting bit of news.

It looks like our friends at Tesla are getting super aggressive with the all-new Model S 60 and Model X 60D. This signals a couple of things to us. But rather then let us continue the dialogue, check out what mre30 sent us today.

Check it out below!

Look what showed up in my Spam today from Tesla....

'Affordable lease rates extended on Model S and Model X'

We are extending our leasing program for Model S 60, Model S 60D and Model X 60D, now through September 30th.

Starting at $667 per month, Model S 60 offers 210 miles (EPA est.) of range and like all Tesla cars comes standard with active safety features and Autopilot hardware. Need more passenger space? Lease offers on Model X 60D start as low as $788 per month and with an unparalleled ride in comfort and style, while providing 200 miles (EPA est.) of range on open road.

For additional savings, anyone who orders any new Model S or Model X between now and October 15th through the Tesla Referral Program gets a $1,000 credit towards the purchase. Just get the special personal code of any Tesla owner and enter it at the time of purchase.

--------------------------------------------------------

It seems that that Tesla may be hitting the wall, sales-wise. This might be the cumulative effect of (a) cheap gas; (b) safety/quality questions - autopilot/falcon door malfunctions; (c) strange corporate announcements 'Elon Musk's Evil Master Plan to Dominate the World' (Mr. Musk may be a real-life Tony Stark of Ironman fame); (d) dated product (its been out for 4 years and everyone who wanted one, has one, and is perhaps tired of it by now); and (e) perhaps a squishy stock price.

Do you think that Tesla is going to wish that they had slowly built out a dealer network who could help them sell the vehicles? Did Tesla make a mistake in deciding to go it alone with no dealer network?

What do you think, Spies — is this just some inventory housecleaning to make way for the Model 3 or an omen of bad things to come?

Not only did Tesla make a mistake on its sales model - but also remember that it did not support the car with a major advertising push - another COST it will have as competition heats up.

I believe that the EV market has -at this price point and until gas prices spike again - hit its saturation point. The market now is a replacement market - with most looking for the newest and best. Until there is a smaller size market that is. That signals LOWER prices - BUT Tesla cannot compete at a lower price point yet - it has yet to make money at the HIGH price point. And that signals real problems for Tesla

The car is fine.. but for the price I expect the interior to feel more premium.
Call me old fashioned but when the entire car is controlled by a large center screen I can't help but wonder what happens when the screen goes blank.
