Infiniti QX30 Strategically Priced To Undercut The Competition - But Will Price Do It Alone?

Infiniti QX30 Strategically Priced To Undercut The Competition - But Will Price Do It Alone?
Having recently spent some time with it, we think the QX30 is a very clever model for Infiniti. This model is based on the Mercedes CLA/GLA and even has the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. In other markets, the QX30 will be sold as the Q30 hatchback, but we all know that US customers don't buy those. However, because the QX30 has a slightly raised ride height, Infiniti can call it a crossover and thus have no trouble marketing it, especially when you factor in its price. It starts at less than $30,000.

It needed to start at $25K. Infiniti needs a hit, this is priced too high for what it is. Infiniti needs to buy its way into the market and this strangely styled thing isn't it. I can't get past the wavy character lines that make the door handles look crooked and that it is first thing you see in the side view.

I cannot begin to express how much I hate these positioned micro SUVs that are really hatchbacks. Infiniti will not do well with this one.

The GLA and X1 have been selling at a rate of about 1500/month. I think the QX30 might do between 500 and 800 per month. Those aren't volume numbers that a lower-priced luxury car should be generating. If Acura decides to hop on the bandwagon of hatchback-disguised-as-SUV as is rumored, they would kill it in sales, as evidenced by their more-than-solid sales of the MDX and RDX, and the QX30 might be rendered an afterthought in the segment.

Yes, price alone will get these puppies moving, no matter how unattractive they might look. Get the price low enough, and surely, someone will buy it. Remember, some folks *paid* to get a Pontiac Aztec, and this is not as bad (I think).
