SPIED: All-New Pics Of The Next-Gen BMW X5 — What Does It NEED To SUCCEED Against Its Competition?
When it comes to luxury sport-utiliy vehicles, its hard to argue against the BMW X5. Since its launch the blue and white big daddy has been a success. Though popular in suburbia, the reality is that the sharp bite of the original X5 seems to have gone a bit soft.

With the debut of a flurry of SUVs from all angles, the X5's life has become tougher, not easier.

THINK: Now SUVs like the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Jaguar F-Pace, Maserati Levante, Volvo XC90, etc., exist solely to take away the Bimmer's marketshare. In recent years, these all-new entrants have been succeeding.

So, we've got to ask: What does the next-gen BMW X5 NEED to SUCCEED?

I am pretty confident someone will chime in and say the X5 is already successful. Perhaps by some measures; however, if all-new vehicle wants to come onto the scene and be numero uno, it has some work to do. After recently driving the all-new Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, I can easily say it is not the best-in-breed choice. Not even close.

What does it need to succeed? A MUCH LOWER PRICE! The X5 is just too expensive for what you are getting.

Oh God its got the Rav-4 ish upgoing rear window that just totally ruins the profile view for me. I had an e70 and now have an f85 (X5M)but it looks like it will be the last BMW for a while.

To succeed, the BMW X-5 needs to be
(a) not F-Ugly;
(b) a little larger
(c) a little less expensive
(d) related to (a), it needs to lose the water buffalo nostril front grill treatment.

Maybe the new X5 is the model on which BMW should experiment losing the twin-kidney grill? The twin kidney grill does not scale up in size very well - it only looks handsome on the 3-series or smaller. The new 7-series looks silly, the X5/X6 front ends look like a startled water buffalo getting a surprise from the rear. Time to lose the twin kidney grill.

The BMW twin kidney grill is like the "Continental Hump" of 2016. Lincoln slowly phased out the increasingly vestigial Continental hump between 1973 (when it was about 40" in radius in the Mark IV, until 1990 when it was about 15" in radius in the early 1990's, after which it disappeared entirely.

BMW needs to ditch the twin kidneys.

It needs not to look like the current X5 which looked barely different from the one it replaced.

If the BMW X5 wants to be successful it needs to do 3 things:

1) It needs a better interior - The current interior is old, outdated and of lower quality than the competition.

2) It needs to be less expensive - The X5 does not provide enough in terms of standard options for the price

3) It needs a new design - The X5 has looked more or less the same since the original model made is debut. It's time for a change because buyers are getting bored.

The new X5 can't come soon enough considering the current X5's sales in the U.S. are down 29% YTD!

I was hoping that someone here would post something truly idiotic, and the "ditch the twin kidneys" guy didn't disappoint!

I just love the way the cammo swirls. It has nice tailpipes, not so hot rims and very small back window.

It needs a differentiator. Make it Ralleyesque! Also the styling is getting too generic...when the second gen X5 came out it was a distinctively good looking tough guy in a suit style, handled great, had enough power in most comfigurations. Things are a lot more competitive and now it seems like the current generation is just another derivative of the standard SUV theme.
