You Heard It Here First! - Nissan's Next Gen Z Car Will Probably Be Based On This CROSSOVER!

Alpine is strongly tipped to launch an SUV as its second model, with a rival to the Jaguar F-Pace and Porsche Macan thought to be most likely.

Alpine boss Michael van der Sande described it as “inevitable” that Alpine would launch models beyond its core sports car range. “To build a brand, you need a product line-up that maintains demand,” he said. “Alpine was always about launching a brand, not just a sports car.”

The ONLY reason the Nissan Z would become a crossover would be to admit defeat. The Z doesn't sell because it's overpriced, does not deliver appropriate performance for the price, is ugly, and built like a Nissan.

Fix those issues and it could easily sell in Camaro/Mustang volume.

Too bad, they should, have done something along the lines of the original 240z, light small, nimble sports car. Maybe 270hp or so.... Maybe have that be the Z car then add the X for a Ralley version. 270Z and a 270ZX...

The 370Z's sales aren't dead because nobody is buying coupes. The Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger prove that wrong. The 370Z's sales are bad because it is a stunningly bad product in every conceivable way. I'd have done a slightly larger coupe with heritage cues as follows:

240Z / 2.4T base $25K
370Z / 3.7 V6 base $28K
450Z / 4.5 V8 base $31K

Nissan is a bargain brand and the 370Z is simply not a bargain...quite the opposite.

Adding a Z inspired ZX crossover--in addition to a new coupe--would have built brand equity that could have then been used to exorcise the boring horrifica of the Minima, Altima, and Maxima with new models that have the newfound Z DNA.

But this is Nissan.

Apparently Nissan has run out of imagination, creativity and inspiration for new auto designs. Maybe they should start making sewing machines.
