2017 Dodge Coronet Concept

2017 Dodge Coronet Concept
The Coronet is a well-known car for any MOPAR fan but unfortunately, the model has been discontinued all the way back in the mid-70s so it is not that well known at this point to the general public. However, despite the fact the car has been discontinued a while ago, it seems that Dodge might bring the name to the market once again which would be a similar move to what they did to the Charger or the Challenger. This time around though the car would likely first hit the market as the 2017 Dodge Coronet Concept and so far the only thing we know about it is that it might be the replacement for the upcoming Charger.

My 2nd car was a 1966 Coronet sedan. According to the VIN it was built with a 426 Hemi, but it had a 383 in it when I bought it in 1971. Still, being the sedan it was extremely light and when I replaced the rear end with a 3.93 ratio, I could pull the front wheels off the ground. Just a little bounce, but you could see air under them :)

Here we go with another utterly stupid post. Like the Torino, the Coronet is not coming back.

First let's not mention that the illustration in the article is of a Charger, not a Coronet.

This line from the article was hilarious: "...Coronet was available in a sedan or a wagon which made it quite popular for those looking to get the latest technology in an easier to reach package." Even in the day, I doubt anyone would have pointed to the Coronet as a car with the latest technology.

Pure bull crap: "the most impressive fact about them is that they are not going to be based on the Alfa rear wheel drive platform...is likely going to be using a new rear wheel drive modular platform which may be used on the future Challenger as well."

Oh Felicia, where to begin? The only way there is a modular platform is if you think the Mercedes turned Chrysler turned Maserati turned Alfa Romeo platform--because it has different wheelbases--makes it a modular platform.

The hoots keep coming: "...Unlike the current Charger which is using a rather old suspension system, the upcoming Coronet is expected to get a fully independent suspension..." The Charger already has fully independent suspension.

Agree that whole article is a mess, one minor correction, the new Alfa Giulia is a new platform, not a rehashed Mercedes...like the Dodge muscle cars or the Maserati Ghibli...

Tell yourself that. There is ample evidence to the contrary.

That front end would make a good modern interpretation of a '67 Charger grille.

Considering that the sedan is a dying breed a Coronet just aint happening. It is going to be interesting to see how sedan sales fair in the next 5 yrs. With small, midsize, and large Crossovers/SUV's I think
sedans will be relegated to high end luxury marquee's or European sport sedans. I think the days of the Honda Accord, Mazda 6, Nissan Altima, Kia Hyundai are numbered.

OK FCA, how about maybe doing something new?

The nostalgia cars are fine but Dodge is missing countless opportunities to use "today's" tech & design advances to create new models. Too much weight is put on these heritage cars. Thats probably why they can't get any momentum with the Chrysler lineup. All this old stuff, how's anybody going to take the "luxury/upscale" brand seriously if they can't past the "old-timey" stuff?

I had ( 3 ) 1969 Dodge Coronets between my brother and I -
This is NOT a concept for a Coronet of any year- looks more like a 1970 charger with hideaway headlights
