Hyundais premium Genesis brand released technical and range details on their updated flagship, the new G90.

Known as the EQ900 in Korea, the new Genesis G90 is set to compete with established luxury cars like the Mercedes S-Class, the BMW 7-Series, the Audi A8, the Lexus LS and the Cadillac CT6.

Yes, and the LS will just then be sandwiched between the G90 and the 7 while the S continues to lead the pack.

Exterior looks like S-Class and 7-Series had an oriental child... with A8 being a cousin on interior

Sat in the last gen equus and thought it was unimpressive. But the refresh seems to be a competent car with a competitive price. They will need to be tested over time to be able to "replace" anyone in this segment.

Its a nice looking car especially with an S Class looking exactly like a C, the 7 looks like a 3 and the A8 looks like a bigger A3. There is something to be said for different and this car will have everything the S, 7 & A8 will have except the over priced German marketing. Perhaps this car will not be "exactly" like the others but the others aren't "exactly" like each other either. So this car will find buyers that are tired of the German depreciation and repair bills and extreme costs of entry. This car will be priced at what $65K vs the others... tell me it won't find buyers? Seems its competition is really the CT-6 which is a very nice car. The Lexus LS starts at $72K and the CT-6 starts at $58K.... are the other 3 "THAT" much better? A8 & 7 Series start at $81,500 and the S Class $95,600.00. I say no and if its my money... I'll do the CT-6.

You will not be disappointed with the CT6 - I really like mine. The only problem I have is that it is still only a 4 passenger car - the middle back seat position is really not a place I would put anyone more than 12 years old - it has no headroom either. But it is still quite a bit more spacious inside than an E-Class - which it is priced against.

However - there are now a number of new larger cars out or coming out in the 2nd tier premium category that will make it hard for the Genesis. Not only the CT6 - but Lincoln will bring out the Continental - and Buick has the new LaCrosse. For those looking for Luxury on a budget - the LaCrosse will be hard to ignore at its price point. THe Continetal will be below the Genesis - and none of them are Korean Cars.

The G90's biggest problem will likely be the Lincoln Continental.

Agree, BUT this has much more presence than the CT6. The G90 won't topple the S class, but it will definitely do better than the Equus, which sold almost as much as the Jaguar XJ...yes the XJ sells poorly but the Equus wasn't the worst selling car in its class. That honor belongs to the Maserati Qporte.

I see in front of me, the dream "UBER" car for thousands of aspiring UBER drivers worldwide.

What a nice product. If it comes in at $55K they will sell a lot of them.

They should sell a de-contented version for the livery car trade.

A good friend of mine traded his Mercedes for a Genesis I R-Spec because the Mercedes was a reliability nightmare. When Genesis II showed up, he upgraded. His father had a 10 yr old S class that he dropped when the Equus came out as an experiment and he loved it. Yes, it was no Mercedes. He will either go to the Continental or the G90 next.

The Genesis products are far better than they are given credit for being. Mercedes killers? Nope! Lexus equals? I'd say yes.

That only supports my statement that the Lexus is a second tier premium - and the Hyundai will aspire to that level as well. I think the difference versus the Lexus is that when the Lexus emerged =- cars were still dominant - Now - crossovers are. You would think that a 4x4 car like my CT6 would be enough - but it is the SIZE of the real 4x4 that now smaller downsized cars simply cannot compete with. My brother - who has a bone disease - and owned a Lincoln Dealership - only bought Town Cars - to stretch out in - making the rear seat useless behind him - but Ford has nothing in that class of car today.

A redesigned LS is being introduced next year, so I wouldn't count on that. That car has been in development 6 years and has cost Toyota roughly $2 billion USD, as GA-L architecture was primarily developed for it, not the LC. The G90 budget was nowhere near that, as much as I commend Hyundai's efforts.
