Mercedes-Benz Targeting Rolls Royce With Swoopy New Ultra-Luxury Coupe
It looks like Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to launch its own massive ultra-luxury coupe, as in a car more massive than the biggest ones it currently makes. The automaker tweeted out a photo of a massive red coupe against a black background. The caption for the tweet read: “Hot & cool – Almost 6 meters of ultimate luxury.” Six meters translates to about 19 feet, so it’s safe to say this new coupe will measure at least a mammoth 18 feet in length. Mercedes didn’t reveal any other details about the car aside from its side profile and length.

THIS is why I am a huge fan of Mercedes at the moment. They are truly just going for the gold and not looking back. No bean counters in the building. Lexus is doing the same, in a different way - primarily with design, but their LC500 and new LS may be significant game changers. If both companies maintain what they're doing and do it successfully, Lexus and Mercedes may make BMW and Audi forgotten memories in the next 10-15 years. (Ok, that is extreme, but you get what I mean!)

Forgotton memories? I wouldn't call complete automation up to speeds of 40 mph, parking the vehicle from outside using a phone app and the ability to pull over and call paramedics in the event of driver incapacitation as resting on your laurels. Audi will be an even greater force than it is now.

This is a smart move by Mercedes-Benz. This vehicle can be a Rolls-Royce competitor the way the S-Class Coupe is a Bentley Continental competitor.

Seriously the only people that think that Mercedes competes with Roll Royce are the M/B PR department, M/B fans, and acquiescent press.

LOL. And the only people scoffing at this notion are people who would never be in the market for one.

I've seen a nice handful of Mercedes-Maybach and Mercedes-Benz coming out of the same neighborhoods as RR Phantoms and Bentleys (And Ferraris, Lambos, and McLarens). So, clearly Mercedes is on to something.

Nose is too high and the tail is too low. The proportions are terrible.

I love Mercedes and have been a customer for 15 years, but this coupe is more than a little silly.

Mercedes is on a roll. Going up market is where the profits are...follow the money. I also suspect that once MB has entries in all the lower end market segments they will slowly worm their way into customers' pocketbooks with even more style, quality, options and performance at higher prices for premium small cars and SUV's. Once most people buy a premium brand its hard to go back down the ladder...after all you don't want your friends and neighbors to think you have fallen on hard times and had to sell your MB. Its simply human nature.

Maybach Exelero reboot. Instead of a one off, it is going to be available as a real model. 1930's influence, big, low, long, wide and powerful. If you have Gatsby $$$. Your ride is ready. I would not bet against a convertible version.
