Seven Seat Tiguan Caught In The Nude - Could This Be The Salvation Of VW In The US?

Aimed mainly at the Chinese and US markets, VW's long wheelbase 2017 Tiguan was spotted out and about in Germany this week.

Just like with the white one that one of our readers caught in the US, this one is also missing any sort of camouflage, allowing us to fully take in its sporty lines and exposed front end, which doesn't seem to differ that much from the one on the regular model anymore.

This could indicate that VW might be looking to insert this car into European markets as well, but at this point it would be pure speculation.

Will depend completely on pricing and equipment. I loved my 2011 Tig, but wasn't satisifed with the MPG or equipment available. When they buy back my Passat, the Tig will have to be less expensive than the current model and better equipped. Otherwise they will lose out to the Forester or CX-5. At least, that's where my buy-back money will go.

Seriously... this is the future of VW... it better have more content at a lower price than the others to buy market share...

No, because the Tiguan kind of sucks in a 5-seat version (4 seat as back seat kinda small?) and adding a third row will just make it suck slightly less.

I don't see this having much impact. From the looks of it, the 3rd row won't offer much in terms of passenger room, so why bother? VW needed to build a car that could compete with the Highlander and Pilot and this isn't it.

Seems like a classic clean design and if it maintains Audi qualities at at a mainstream price; oh, who am I kidding.

It has to be priced to the penny the same as the Escape, CRV, and RAV4 with the SAME options and it needs a Hyundai warranty. Neither will happen. So...strike one....strike two....

If VW hasn't gotten their quality under control....strike three

Sorry - but there will be no quick salvation for VW in the USA.
They still make vehicles for the European buyer - and as a result - they don't sell well here because we don't like small European cars that much. The fact is - if they did not have Audi - we would be talking about them leaving the US market.
I believe that SKODA will be the new entry level VW in the USA - and VW will try again to move upscale - and they will crash and burn in the attempt.
