RENDERED SPECULATION: Land Rover's Range Rover Chasing The X6 And GLE Coupe With The Sport Coupe

RENDERED SPECULATION: Land Rover's Range Rover Chasing The X6 And GLE Coupe With The Sport Coupe
Although some would like to call the original BMW X6 a sales disaster and a vehicle that should have never been built, it sure did launch an all-new niche. Oh, and the blue and white did move quite a few units.

Why else would it continue with the X6 and launch the X4?

Now we're seeing other manufacturers join the party. A great example is the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe and upcoming GLC-Coupe. Guess what? I am seeing a lot more GLE Coupes in the New York Tri-State region than I would have ever expected. More GLEs are popping up than X6s, I can tell you that much.

Turns out other automakers took notice and are launching their very own efforts. Who's next? Land Rover.

In this artistic rendering done up by Remco Meulendijk, they give us just a taste of what may be around the corner from Jaguar Land Rover. It's not as severe as we would have expected but there's a mix of Range Rover Sport and Evoque in there.

That said, IF Land Rover were to push out a product like this would YOU expect a success or failure?

Isn't the Infiniti FX really the originator of the SUV-as-coupe niche?

I'd say so.

I've thought about this a couple time previously and here's why I'd argue no.

The vehicle's window line is what makes it look coupe-like when in reality the construction is of that of a conventional SUV.

The X6 was an all-new form factor and introduced a new niche.

Nope- Jeep produced a number of firsts. They were two door long before Infiniti - and they were even convertibles too.

It was the originator of the niche. Not the X-6. And the FX was a much more appealing execution of the concept than the X-6. The only thing chasing the X-6 are lovestruck piggies, not this Land Rover.

The ill fated Acura RDX was here before the X6 too...

I meant to say Acura ZDX and not the RDX...

SUV as a coupe is still one of the most ridiculous automotive form factors I have ever witnessed. I amazed these impractical vehicles get approved by the automotive boards. I would love to speak to owners who had one and then got into something else. "Why did you change" Oh "No storage, really hard to see out of, plus poor mileage without the gain of more space." But I won't be surprised if Porsche does one. The rendered Range Rover Sport is barely different than the donor vehicle. Why bother?

This rendering wouldn't look out of place if we were still in the 1980s
