OFFICIAL: Tesla’s Model S And Model X Get FASTER And More Miles/Charge With The P100D
So, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given the headlines in recent weeks, but Tesla is officially confirming the release of a 100-kwh battery for the Model S and Model X. This makes it the most substantial electric vehicle powertrain offering in the company’s product portfolio.

For those of you who are not into the whole plugging in for juice thing, let me spell that out for you. This translates into more power and more miles per charge.

Of course this is great news but don’t start jumping for joy just yet. The Model S P100D will carry a base price of $134,500* and the Model X variant will ring the register at $135,500*. If you’re pissed off that you recently acquired a P90D recently and you missed out, fear not. Tesla will gladly offer you the ability to kick it up to 100-kwh for $20,000. $10,000 of the funds goes towards the upgrade and the other half goes towards recycling the used 90-kwh battery pack. If you’ve ordered a P90D but have not taken delivery, you can upgrade for $10,000.

*These prices do not include title, taxes and fees.

According to Tesla’s Founder and CEO, Elon Musk, this jump was very difficult to accomplish and due to the complexity of the battery pack it will result in low production numbers for the P100D.

Some stats for the braggers in the audience:

The Model S P100D’s zero to 60 is claimed to be 2.5 seconds and will get an estimated 315 miles on a charge.

The Model X P100D’s zero to 60 is claimed to be 2.9 seconds and will get an estimated 289 miles on a charge.

Not one snarky comment? Tesla released a version of their sedan that is BOTH the fastest production car of any kind 0-60 (2.5 seconds) AND has the most range of any electric car ever (315 miles). Porsche is going to have to get more ambitious with the Mission E.

Hold on SJD, MD is changing his diapers, I'm sure he'll put something demeaning in.

If Tesla can make the Model 3 to run sub 4 sec for around $55K, I'll be a happy camper.

At the rate Tesla is upgrading battery pack capacity, the Model S and X will be up available 140 or perhaps 150kW size power when the Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW all-electrics are finally actuall available to buy and drive out of the dealer.
