CAR WARS! Luxury SUV Edition: All-New Bentley Bentayga Challenges The Range Rover SVAutobiography
These days if you’re in the market for luxury, there’s a good chance that you’re going to steer clear of sedans. Now, most consumers are turning towards not only opulence but size.

That means they’re looking for a sport-utility vehicle, and in some cases, a real truck.

Why else do you think the King Ranch and Platinum Ford F-150s are killing it right now?

When it comes to the ultra luxury SUVs all of the auto manufacturers are rushing to deliver a product to market. Well, unless you’re BMW — how long have we been waiting for the X7?

Two of the big dogs duking it out are the Land Rover Range Rover SVAutobiography and the all-new Bentley Bentayga. While neither of the two are considered cheap by any measure, there’s no question that the Bentley will fetch a bit more.

So, WHICH is the better pick? The staple or the newcomer?

Watch how it plays out in the video clip below.

There was a time when a 4x4 was basic. Not any more. The Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover SVAutobiography cost at least £150,000 apiece - more than most luxury cars. The expensive SUV has become big news.

So what separates the Range Rover SVAutobiography from the Bentley Bentayga. The Range Rover has been blinged from its original point and given a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 to reach this price level. The Bentley Bentayga, powered by a 6.0-litre W12, has been designed from the outset as a pure luxury car. Which is better to sit in and drive, and which is the better car to give the President of the United States a lift in?

Let's see a VW Touareg mongrel or a Rangie. I'll take the Rangie if I were forced to choose.

@MDarringer the point is that no one cares (people with this kind of money) if its a Touareg with lipstick, its a Bentley and it will sell like hotcakes to all the celebrities making this the vehicle that every Kardashian wannabe desires. You can say all you want about it, but Bentley will be laughing all the way to the bank like Lexus is with the LX.

To sum - since it was built from scratch as a premium luxury SUV, the Range Rover is better overall. Its roomier, its ride is better, its engine sounds "richer". The RR interior is not quite as nice as the Bentouareg's and it cannot go 200 MPH either.

Basically, the Bentley's interior is flat-out gorgeous and it has a 600HP engine that pushes it to 200MPH but it is basically a warmed-over Q7/Touareg/Cayenne - small on the inside with a stiffer ride.

I'll be very curious to see what kind of customers purchase the Bentayga and how fast the resale values plummet.

Subjectively, in my opinion, the Range Rover is perfectly proportioned and a beautifully designed vehicle and the Bentley's proportions would make it right at home at Costco with other Touaregs.

The depreciation on both brands is STEEP.

Agreed, the proportions and the front end styling are way off on the Bentley. They need to evolve their styling directiion and this would have been the perfect vehicle to do that with. A missed opportunity IMHO. Also I personally like the RR interior styling better, clean lines, nice materials instead of opulent goofiness. The RR wins on exterior design as well, as you say nicely proportioned, no goofy looking angles to be found. Performance and handling I defer to the testers as I have not driven either.

The newer RR Sport and Evoque have both held their value really well. I would bet they have been one of the best (would need to look it up but too early in the am)...

I saw my first Bentayga yesterday close to our place in Ormond by the Sea. It drove by me hauling a small trailer with some boxes on it, LoL!
