EV Study Applauds Tesla, BMW, Nissan As Leaders - Toyota and Honda Labeled As Laggards

With recent studies showing electric vehicles would cover the needs of the vast majority of car owners in the US, nationwide availability of electric vehicles has never been more important. A new study from the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) paints an interesting picture of EV availability in the US, praising Tesla, BMW and Nissan for their nationwide availability, and shaming Honda and Toyota for their little effort in making plug-in vehicles available.

As you can see in the picture above, the study also clearly illustrates the efficiency of ZEV mandates in making EVs available in their markets, with California still being the clear leader. The number in each state represents the number of EV models available for sales in the state.

Weak EV sales aside, for ten years the Toyota Prius has done more to accelerate hybrid acceptance than any other car model anywhere.

The general public is not yet ready to embrace full EV, which is why higher end products are what's currently available from Tesla and BMW. Ironically, the Nissan Leaf is a terrible car (range anxiety defined) and may be the single reason why the public hates EV cars.

My view: Rather than labeling any specific technology (such as hybrids or EVs) as good or bad, develop a trustworthy reporting system that delivers the total environment impact of (a) building, (b) operating, (c) and decommissioning the vehicle, and let those numbers stand on their merit.

If the total environmental footprint for a specific EV shines, then put the spotlight on it and let people know!

Also, as we all hopefully know, not all EVs and Hybrids are created equal. For example, the Audi Q5 Hybrid might be the worst examples of "hybridization" as an afterthought, adding lots of cost with very little consumer benefit. Fortunately, they sell exceptionally poorly as well. Use that vehicle as an example of hybrids and you quickly (and wrongly) conclude that all hybrids are unworthy hype. Ditto with EVs. Look at Tesla in isolation and you might (wrongly) conclude that all EVs are just for rich folks.

Geee - how Un American can you get - allow pure unaltered numbers to stand alone without even a slant! The problem is - that would require ROBOTS to perform the tests - human testers would favor something.

At this point - the case for a pure EV has not yet been made - nor has any manufacturer established a market for them based on their merits. THe Tesla is sell a high price set of goods - for rich people what want to be able to say they are green - even though moving the emissions to a generating plant is not so green. The Nissan and BMW sell in minute numbers compared to the general market as well.

At this point - it is the Hybrid - and NOT the pure EV - that has been sold as a transportation vehicle - because of the lack of Range anxiety. It will be DECADES before a pure EV takes the place of the Hybrid for that purpose.

And yet the polls show that Trumps base is old, fat, white, uneducated dinosaurs that are incapable of coping with their changing environment. Evolution has always been about adapting, which is why the Republicans turds are swimming upstream against a torrent of changes and will come to an evolutionary dead end, and none too soon. Mattie, the perfect Republican, uneducated white trash. #WhiteTrachMatttie

Aspy11 (or is it really another Mattie alias?) -
Looks like you are just another of those neurologically challenged Republican turd sheep. Or did I just land a little to close to home with "fat, white, uneducated dinosaurs", to which I will also add angry and unhinged. Believe me, I get the bromance you idiots have for Trump. If he gets in office, white supremacy organizations will bloom, you will be able to subjugate women again while openly discriminating against race, religion, and sexual orientation. Back to the early 60's again, a wet dream come true for the mindless Trump tape worms.
