Japanese NSX Buyers To Pay $80K Over US Market - Buyers In Oz Gouged By $160K
Honda just announced that it was going to begin offering the new NSX in Japan. The reason why it took so long for the hybrid sports car to make it to the Land of the Rising Sun might be due to the fact that it's technically an import. The NSX sold in Japan will be no different than the car offered to Americans with the exception of its price. Japanese drivers are being asked to pay 23.7 million yen, which is about $235,000. In America the NSX starts at $156,000. Part of that increased price is due to an 8% gas guzzler tax the NSX has been slapped with.

You know what they say: There's one born every minute.

Welcome to "The Blip." The pent-up demand and excitement for those very few hard-core fans with deep pockets who just must have "IT". After these few buyers have been satiated, the sticker gouging will end, and the "List Price" crowd will be fulfilled. After that, when sales slow to a trickle, discounts will appear.

I'd imagine Acura's not stupid, so they're not stamping these out like hotcakes. They'll attribute low sales to their intended "exclusivity," and limited production run.

At least that they way *I* think it'll play out. Let's sit back and see what actually happens.

That's ridiculous! This car isn't even worth the sticker price and they are jacking up the prices for people stupid enough to pay for it. I guess some people do have more money than brains.

maybe im one of the few people who actually loves just about everything about this car, but ill admit, 150k is pushing it anything over that is just insane.
this car should have topped out at 120k and started at 100k.

Before making statements about value, we need to keep in mind these are markets where all prices reflect these levels. In Australia, for example, cars are taxed up to 100% when they climb above $60k. For example, a $55k (USD) in the U.S. runs over AUD$100k in Australia.

Does anyone think a $100k Boxster makes sense? Sitting in the U.S., of course not but that's the price structure over there....

Similarly, Japanese care prices don't come close to U.S. prices.

I'm not a fan the Acura but the value judgment would still need to be made in the context of local prices.
