SPIED + VIDEO: FIRST Look At The Upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class COUPE — Checkmate, 6-Series?
One thing I've been wondering about for quite some time is whether or not Mercedes-Benz would produce an E-Class Coupe. That's because, well, it's a little complicated.

Although there was a last-gen E-Class Coupe and Convertible, I don't see nearly as many as I saw CLK models. Could be me or the New York Tri-State region. That said, with the very capable C-Class and obscenely great S-Class, is there really a need for a middler that will sell in arguably negligible volume? It is a dwindling class when it comes to sales.

Turns out that the three-pointed star is working on an E-Class Coupe, after all.

Given Mercedes' latest products, we're thinking it will mimic the C and S' shape. That means it will be an elegant and rather long coupe that has sweeping lines. On the inside expect the interior — particularly the dash — to be carried over.

Considering how the BMW 6-Series is now a bit dated and Mercedes has been one-upping the Bavarians one vehicle launch at a time, is this yet another Mercedes that will work its magic on the blue and white?

This time I have filmed the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé that is testing on the Nurburgring. The 2018 E-Class will be available in a 4 or 6 cylinder engine for benzine and diesel. It comes also with a 4.0 liter V8 engine by AMG with around 600HP!

i'm glad Mercedes is still committed to the E-Coupe. I see tons of the current E-Coupe and convertible in my area. Definitely more than I see 6 Series, and definitely more than I see 435i, S5's or C350 Coupes (making a price-point comparison). Clearly there's still a robust market for them.

Can't wait to see where Mercedes takes this one. I hope they found a way to rid of that rear-glass oddity of the current model, while still maintaining the pillarless green house and the open air-ability of a retracting rear window.

Where the hell do you live!?

Yes, hoping that fixed rear window triangle goes the way of the dinosaur.

In the Hamptons, you see E-Class coupes 2 to 1 over the 6-series. Perhaps Florida or SoCal too? Invariably its driven by a 60-70 year old, gold-chain draped "entrepreneur" type guy with a pinkie ring.

Unlike other MB's, they are usually clad in somewhat garish colors/interiors. In the flesh, with the chrome and the colors, the E-Coupe has much more visual pizzazz then the 6-series.

Car sounds like either it's bloated - too heavy - or sitting on poor tires - all-weather? - or the driver keeps a lousy line - which s/he does on some turns....

It was a bit of a howler in the video.

I believe the E-Class Coupe will be a phenomenal car and will be a lot more popular than the BMW 6-Series Coupe.

The E-Class coupe will likely be a smaller version of the elegant and striking S-Class Coupe but larger than the smaller C-Class Coupe. It really is the perfect size for someone that wants a car that isn't too large (S-Class Coupe) or too small (C-Class Coupe).

Given Mercedes-Benz has already moved way ahead of BMW when it comes to interior quality and design and its coupes are some of the most attractive models around, the E-Class Coupe should be a great vehicle.

I see plenty of E-Class coupes in the tri-state area between Manhattan, Greenwich and the Hamptons.

Yeah, in Orange County, I see more E-Class coupes than the 6-series coupes.

In fairness direct comparisons with the 6 Series probably aren't merited, as the current E-Coupe starts over $20k below that Bavarian. I do wonder how much upmarket Mercedes will move the new E-Coupe to separate it a bit more from the C-Coupe, but not potentially encroach on the S-Coupe.

One thing is clear and it is that Mercedes continues to widen the gap it has with BMW
