CAR WARS! German Sport Coupes Edition: BMW M4 Competition Pack vs. Mercedes-AMG C63 S

CAR WARS! German Sport Coupes Edition: BMW M4 Competition Pack vs. Mercedes-AMG C63 S
If you're in the market that carries a base price of about $60-70,000 USD and provides the best of both worlds — sport and luxury — then it's probably going to be hard to find something better than the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S. That's because both vehicles are excellent choices in today's marketplace.

It must be noted, however, that each has their respective pros and cons.

The C63 has a fantastic interior and excellent seating, which is second to none. The newly released Competition Package for the M4 takes the M-rated sports car up a notch and gives it the emotion we've all been waiting for.

I know, as I am driving an M3 Competition Package. Though it may only require an investment just under $5,000 for the pack, it is money well spent if you're into the OEM thing.

But, like most thing here at AutoSpies, we're a wee bit curious. Who's better?

In its truly German fashion, publication Sport Auto puts both Germans through their paces in this instrumented testing. The times are listed below.

All that said, we want to know: WHICH would YOU add to your personal fleet? The Bimmer or the Benz?

Hockenheim Lap Times (all times performed by Uwe Sener, Sport Auto):

M4 Competition Package (DCT): 1:11.9
M4 Coupe (DCT): 1:12.3
BMW M2 (DCT): 1:12.5
C63 S Coupe: 1:12.6
M4 Coupe (6MT): 1:12.8

Acceleration:

M4 Competition Package/C63 S Coupe

0– 40 km/h: 1.5/1.6
0–100 km/h: 4.4/4.2
0–160 km/h: 9.1/8.7
0–200 km/h: 14.2/13.5

Not that surprised with the end result. The M4 is lighter and better around the track. Even still, not by a huge margin. Can't wait to see if AMG builds a Black Series for the C63 S.
I'd still take the C63S over the M4 Competition.

Having driven both, I can now saw that I'd rather have the M3 Competition Package. The C63 S is quite good but not nearly as exciting as the last-gen C63 with the massive 6.2-liter V8.

I would take the C63 in a heartbeat. I'm not a good enough driver to take either cars anywhere close to their limit, so any advantage the m3 have on the track would be moot to me. The hair raising V8 rumble is enough for me to take the C63

Wow, seems like this story never changes, AMG better straight line performance and the M3/M4 better through the corners...but it seems to be closer and closer with every iteration. M2 looks like it is in the hunt as well and driver skill would be the main factor in a fastest lap.

Ironically, Mercedes with their AMG trim level is surprisingly American muscle car in its demeanor. For me, I would go with the Mercedes because BMW's simply aren't as good as they used to be dynamically and their styling is dated. I predict that the new 3 Series will look just like the current one.

Looks like the M2 is the real winner here, wow.
