Awesome Bugatti Veyron Video (1/4 mile run and more)

Here is a video of what appears to be the first instrumented American magazine test of the Bugatti Veyron by Motor Trend. Quick summary of the test results: 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, 1/4 mile in 10.4 seconds @ 139.9 mph, 60-0 in 104 feet (better than Ferrari Enzo and the Ford GT, trails the much lighter Porsche Carrera GT by only 3 feet) and a curb weight of 4,530 pounds. The numbers were generated with the "idiot-proof" launch control working, it basically keeps the RPMs below 4,000 for the first 2 seconds, shows just how powerful the engine is as it doesn't even need full power for such an amazing 0-60 time. I think that the braking is definately the most amazing part of the Veyron, I already knew about the awesome acceleration.

This car is not only a display of VW/Audi technology, it is a testiment of the group's engineering fortitude. I don't know if any of you can picture this or not, but five years ago or more, I think it was VW's then chairman Piech that stood up at a press conference a proclamed that the VW/Audi group would build this thing. In much the same way Kennedy anounced to the world that the US would go to the Moon by the end of a decade, Piech announced that they would build this car and that it would produce these kinds of numbers. He must not have discussed it with many of his engineers because even they scoffed at the prospect of hitting the performance target. As the car was undergoing development, many of them quit out of frustration.

I don't know if many of you know this or not, but a wind tunnel does not exist that can test aerodynamics at the kinds of speeds this car is capable of. The only way to find out if something works is to hire a "test pilot" to climb in and go find out the "old school" way, and that takes fortitude of a different kind altogether.

The very fact that this car exists at all is a miracle. Anyone who ever gets a chance to get behind the wheel of one should look at it much the same way as getting a ride in a B2. The list should be very short but distinguished.

There are a lot of Audi haters out there who say that their engineering is marginal or substandard. All one has to do is take a long hard look at this car and what it has accomplished. I can hardly wait till they base a Volkwagen on it!

Piech was a genius and a real car guy.. He worked on the creation of the Porsche Can Am (917/30), the original Audi quattro, and was responsible for whipping VW into shape. Its impressive that some of the bigger car manufacturers GM, Ford, Toyota can only dream of producing such an incredible package. Check out the link below for a blistering 0-300KPH run. Enjoy..

Veyron is cool, but I think the EB110 was a better looker.
