Tesla Fixes Random Gullwing Door Issues But At What Risk To You?

With its latest firmware update for the Model X, Tesla fixed a recurring problem owners had with the Falcon Wing doors. The doors would often stop in the middle of their opening or closing process because of “phantom detection” – detecting a non-existent obstacle.

But now Tesla’s fix appears to increase the risk of pinching and some owners are voicing their concerns and calling the new feature dangerous.

In the software update v7.1.2.23.100, Tesla reduced the sensitivity of the inductive sensors located in the roof panel of the Falcon Wing doors.

Wow, what a youtube clip! This has inspired me to come up with some catchy marketing phrases, popular some time ago but since abandoned, that Tesla can use in their branding and advertising....

(a) Tesla - 'Quality Goes In...Before the Name Goes On'

(b) Tesla - 'The Art of Engineering...and the Science of Tort Law Defense'

(c) With apologies to enthusiasts of the long dead 'Mercury' brand...Tesla Model X to be renamed 'Tesla Grand Marquis de Sade'

and finally...

(d) Tesla..the only car company in the world who throws our ideas against the wall to see if they stick because they go out to our valued customers!

While a fan of Tesla car, I must admit that the Model X has too many "over the top" (literally) items that work against it. The overly complex Falcon doors and the huge glass windshield are deal killers for me (still holding on the $5K deposit to be used for the Model 3 next year). I also understand that there are people who like the Model X exactly for these features. If anyone can overlook these "drawbacks", the X is gorgeous inside and a blast to drive - no other SUV out there can come close, including the Macan Turbo and Cayenne Turbo S.

Speaking of the Falcon doors closing with high force, anyone ever check the Cayenne rear door when it's closing ? it can easily break a leg or anything that gets in the way - it can't even stop.
