VIDEO: THIS Is What It Looks Like When You Set A High-Speed Lap Time In The McLaren 675LT
The McLaren 675LT is a monumental super car. Although many people lust after the P1, I think they're missing out on the 675. That's because it's a complete monster without all the pretension and the steep price tag of the P1.

Also, the 675LT stripped out. What's there NOT to like?

Recently given the beans at the German Sachsenring Circuit, the 675LT set an impressive time. Among non-modified vehicles, the McLaren set the fourth best. It was behind two Porsche 918 Spyders and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Compared with other lap times, the McLaren beat out the likes of the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the Dodge Viper ACR and the Lamborghini Aventador SV.

Until McLaren releases the 675's lap time around the Nurburgring, this will have to suffice. See how the Brit performs, below!

That is one bad driver if I've ever seen one. Holly smoke... The guy has decent reflexes but clearly never learned how to drive fast.

Is it because he's scrubbing?

I mean, he did just set a rather impressive time, so, just curious as to your reasoning.

Smoothness is the hallmark of pro-racers and this guy jerks the car around non-stop. That doesn't mean he's not fast, just that he could be faster.

I've not driven that track but there are a number of times where he doesn't seem to be taking the best line or hitting his apexes. Again, he may be a fast, experienced driver but that doesn't mean he's optimal.

I don't know who set the other lap times so it's difficult to compare on the basis of the data provided. (These could be lap times for the month for all I know...) However, let's face it, a Z06 ahead of a 675LT suggests different driver skills, significant track condition differences or sub-par set-up on one of the cars. Otherwise, every tests I've seen conducted has left standings inverted relative to the ones above except for the Motor Trend figure 8, where the Vette was 0.1 sec quicker.

Smoothness is NOT the hallmark of pro racers. The hallmark of pro racers is to very quickly understand how a car wants to be handled when pushed to its limits and driving accordingly.

As an example, a TVR Sagaris demands constant attention, correction, manhandling, blood, sweat, and tears and that is how it wants to be dealt with. That's why it's so much fun.

As a second example, a Nissan GTR requires very little effort to go fast because the technology is doing the driving for you and it wants you to let the software lead the way.

If you're pushing a vehicle beyond its limits, it's going to mess up and you're going to have to catch up, but the guy seems to be piloting the Eclipse fairly well. Yes, there are some places where he's jackbutting around, but all in all he seems to be driving right.

@ATrain have you ever had performance driving training or pushed a fast car to its limits?

Matt,

Under any and all circumstances, if you jerk a car, it will go slower than if you're smooth.

I have and continue to train with pros on a regular basis. I take cars to the limit every month on a variety of tracks.

That guy could go faster. No doubt in my mind.

Not really a surprise that the Z06 was faster than the 675LT; the difference is .05 secs so the two cars are essentially equal. With the Z07 package the Z06 has enough downforce to corner faster than the 675LT, though the McLaren is faster in the straights. At VIR the Z06 was almost 6 secs a lap faster than the 911 GT3, over 5 secs quicker than the Ferrari 458, 3.1 secs faster than the Huracan, and 1.4 secs faster than a McLaren 650S Spider. The mega-buck 918 was only 1.5 secs faster. Mock the Z06 if you like, but the numbers don't lie.
