SPY PHOTO: If the next 911 looks this cool, it's all over for the competition!
This image just floated across our desks and it almost floored me!

One of our readers (xFifty) sent this to us saying this could be the look of the next 911 (998).

Is this car amazing or what?

If they produce something this cool the competition will be running for the hills!!!!

I am told by one insider at Porsche AG that after reviewing the success of the type 993 design 95-98 Porsche 911 - they decided to go back/ i.e retro....to the old type/design in next generation 911/998. So guys after witnessing one such evidence in the 997 front headlights (oval shaped replacing broken egg image of the 996), one can pretty much be comforted that the 993 design will be back (of course with some minor cosmetic changes). never really understood why Porsche has departed from the 'compact' design of the 911 it had from 1960's up to 1998. That was the real Porsche NOT the all-rounded vehicle/sedan!! it is now

Cheers.

To all those 993 type lovers!!! desperately seeking to buy the old model at extravagant/hiked prices (note what some are asking for 993TT 1996/97 circa $75-90,000!!!!!!!!!!). Stay put and don't get exhtorted by the greedy #$@%^&*%$# - be patient the next SURPRISE (back to the past!) 911 is Coming soon.

Even the Ford 500 looked good in some sketches. Looks cool, but too litle actual car in the picture.

Would be about time they did something more progressive. The latest 911 is a good looking car but its borderline boring.

I'm gonna need more than an artists rendering to get excited. But its a nice drawing.

I don't like it... I hope the new 911 doesn't come out before 2009, because that's when I want one...

Does anyone know when it will come out? 2011-ish?

this picture has actually been out for a while. the artist that drew this also does concept design for audi, mb, bmw, and some others. this was just a sketch of how the porsche can be more or less configured. it has actually been around for as long, if not longer, as the current 911. i think they used styling of the rear taillights when they did the refresh for it.

Shady, I was thinking Crossfire as well from those stupid looking "rivets".

Loose the license plate, mirrors, and Carrera S badge and I would have thought it was a UFO.

I love the new Targa!

Actually a sketch of the 928 front engined coupe based on the panamera due in 2010. Since the 1980s Porsche killed the 928 and never had a car to compete with the CL, Continental GT, DB9, and XK

Not too much to see, but I know it will be a killer design.

How many cars come out actually looking like the artists sketch? Answer: None.

They need to do something. As nice as the 911 is, I'm tired of the VW beatle inspired design. After 30 years they need a completely new design IMO.

Whatever it may be, I hope the next convertible 911 ditches it rear seat and goes back to the styling of the 1994 Carrera roadster.

Oh, and Porsche, please use real metal trim bits instead of painted plastic on the interior.
