Would An AWD Challenger Upset The Ponycar Balance Of Power?
There have been a lot of rumblings lately about the future of the Dodge Challenger. First we heard from Allpar that FCA may be putting a new turbo V6 capable of 400 horsepower into the muscle car. Now Automotive News (AN) is reporting that an AWD Challenger—a V6 model no less—will debut this fall. Not much more detail is known about the car, which Automotive News is calling the GT AWD. In addition to the GT AWD a new Hellcat is also set to debut, albeit after the V6 all-wheel-drive car.

It most decidedly would have no impact because the car itself is so outdated. Sure a few would buy it, but Shelby/ZL1/Z28 sales would not be impacted at all. You can give technology to grandpa, but it's still grandpa. It's also not available on the Hellcat where it would be most useful. This is FCA BSing...yet again.

4WD in a hellcat might be interesting, otherwise agree with MDarringer, no impact to this outdated car.

I had to convince my "grandfather" to part with vehicle that I sold at top dollar to get a spot for a Challenger Hellcat. I'm in the queue and plan to add it to the collection and December is the projection. In a HEARTBEAT I would would buy an AWD Challenger. It will be cobbled-together shit but, it will be worth something when I need viagra to inflate the serpentine when I'm 80.

With AWD, customers won't be deterred by winter weather as much, I guess. This car hadn't been known for handling dynamics, so I'm assuming AWD is just for all-weather stability.

Also, wonder if the new V6 is going to be a twin turbo unit.

And a V6 would have CAFE requirement benefits as well too...I hope.
