Sometimes our general dislike of crossovers may seem unfounded to those who aren’t well acquainted with the automotive world, but believe us, it’s warranted. Smart move, considering the 5 series isn't worth trying to kill momentarily sales wise and an SUV will most definitely increase volume/profit especially with fuel cost headed south

They shelved the 5-series killer because Tony Soprano's Uncle Stelvio "told" them to.

Smart move considering no one sees Alfa Romeo as being a credible BMW rival.

Alfa as an Acura rival would be credible.

FCA already has its premium 5 Series competitor in the Ghibli.

No one!

The E Class is the target.

How come none of these companies are ever trying to "kill" any GM or Ford products?

SUV's, CUV's are the market right now. Sedans are becoming part of the past. It was the only move Alfa could make. A 5 series rival has much smaller volume then any SUV or Crossover. My only regret is they are holding off on an Alfa spider. Perhaps if sales become strong they can consider putting it on the burner again. However if they go through with 4 series, C class, and A5 Coupe rival they can always offer a convertible version.
