WHOA!!! Watch The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Destroy The Nurburgring Lap Record AGAIN!
It’s true, the Nurburgring Nordschleife records have a tendency to fall quickly – just a few months ago the all-new second generation Porsche Panamera Turbo posted the best time for a production series sedan at 7 minutes 38 seconds. That time is out the window now because the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has come up with a time of 7 mins 32 secs. The Giulia is actually reclaiming its title – the manual gearbox unit ticked the clock at 7 mins 39 secs, and was then trumped by the Porsche sedan. Now Alfa Romeo has returned to the track with a model packing the optional, eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, and wiped a big chunk off the manual’s time – here’s the death of the classic manual box’.

That is an awesome drive, whomever that is certainly takes that car by the scruff of the neck and gets every bit out of it. Competitor to the M3, AMG C class, RS4? No doubt. As reliable? Maybe not. However almost all new cars are far more reliable than even 5-8 years ago so I might sacrifice that small bit for this car. But then again if reliability is such a huge factor in your car purchasing decision you will probably buy a Toyota/Lexus anyways.

It looked an expert driver tackling an unruly car.

Reminded me of watching Ayrton Senna vs Alain Prost - this was the Senna version of driving, hands flashing getting every bit and maybe more from the car, Alain on the other hand was so fast but always looked like he was driving to church, calmly hitting apexes with barely a correction to be seen. Was fun watching it for me.

These are still " street cars" - not truly designed for nor specially prepared for breaking a lap record at the "ring". Just as in the early days of drag racing and even leading to Nascar too - these cars ARE a handful at the speeds that they are approaching - which they never will on an actual public street. And it would take a real expert driver to drive them at those speeds too. Otherwise - you will not approach a record run. I would not expect anything otherwise.

Not all street cars are a handful at speed.

Take any car beyond its limits 11/10ths and they will become a handful. Never really raced cars other than some Friday nights at the local drag strip in the 70s and a couple autocrosses years ago. However I have done some street racing on motorcycles and once you get beyond a certain point they become a bit unruly and will scare the f*ck out of you. Dirt bikes not as much since in my mind at least I never feared being killed on the dirt. Broken bones maybe. Street bike racing...totally different and not only about talent but guts to leave that throttle open. Others had more talent and guts than me, thus I am here posting and not some famous ex racer :( signing autographs.

Most street cars are a handful with the exceptions of super cars. The Giulia is no better or worse then any other high performance RWD sedan. It was just a little faster around the circuit than most of the others.
