Audi's R8 Enters Production

Audi's R8 Enters Production
Audi is marking "100 Years of Automotive Engineering in Neckarsulm" by officially putting its new R8 sports car into production. At a ceremony held at the Neckarsulm plant in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Chairman of the Board of AUDI AG, Prof. Martin Winterkorn, was joined by state premier Günther Oettinger to launch production of this new range-topping model, which is to be built in Neckarsulm.

The R8 had received its world premiere just three days previously at the Paris Motor Show.

This is one of the most exciting automobiles ever to make it to production. Impressive, bold move. I hope the LF-A is not too far behind.

I put a deposit down yesterday. Should have it this time next year.

Yes you should. But this time next year, the all LED headlights will also be available.

You're not going to get a test drive unless you're a buyer. You'll be lucky to even see one at the dealership. But the car is going to be amazing, and it's a testament to Audi's willingness to improve their brand image and stature.

Actually, sources say that Audi wants every US dealer (or at least most) to create a special room where the R8 can always be seen. If you're an S/RS Audi owner, I'm sure they'll let you sit in it and possibly test drive it.

Where I live in CA there are a lot of cars the some local dealers won't let you test drive, M5 included. You want it, you buy it.

I think the R8 will be a better performer than the M6... they're in such different classes that it's hard to tell.

M6: Luxury GT. It has power, poise and luxury, but doesn't have quite the tactile feel that makes the M3 such a wonderful performer.

R8: An all-out sports car with an added touch of comfort and versatility, the R8 pushes the envelope for luxury sports cars even further. While the M6 can cruise coolly down a highway and that's really what it's main for, the R8 will take you down the Nürburgring.

I'm not saying the M6 isn't fun to drive; it is. But it's saying a lot that the M6, which is about 900lbs heavier than the R8, is better to drive, especially because the R8 is mid-engined and rear-biased with amazing traction. Audi's 0-60 estimates are always way slow, so don't rely on those.

We prefer to be rude in the US. We're jaded that way.

"...and that's really what it's main for..." should be "and that's really what it's -->meant<-- for..."

Ohh, by the time I grow up, the only way for me to buy this is to buy a second hand one. im only 15 right now. I want to be an architect when I grow up but I dont think it would get me enough money at the age of 25. cry, cry.

but im sure there will be plenty of other good lookin cars out there in 10 years time.

There won't be any dealer markup in the U.S.
Audi of America does not allow its dealers to mark up their cars; if they are caught (dealers) doing it, they see their allocation for the next month taken away!

I just want this car. I don't want much. But this car pushes all the right buttons. Hats off to Audi for making it fun to be alive.

I'm gonna order myself an R8 it's just and increadible car! If you want to hate then saty in the other blog's. If you love it let's keep the positives rolling!
