Audi Goes Gunning For The Cayman S With Second Gen TT RS

The second-generation Audi TT RS will go on sale later this month priced from £51,800 in Coupé form and £53,550 as a Roadster.

Those prices pitch the four-wheel drive TT RS directly against the new Porsche 718 Cayman S, which costs £48,834, and soft-top 718 Boxster S, which starts at £50,695.

We own the third generation 2017 Audi TT. It is a vastly improved car over the outgoing 2015 TTS model that we also owned. The new TT-RS is going to be a monster and should be real competition for the Cayman (also own a Cayman GTS.

Gunning for a Porsche with what is essentially a GTI with AWD pasted in as a bandaid? Who in their right mind would choose a TT over a Porsche? Answer: no one with a brain.

Probably the same people that would choose a Genesis over Lexus.

Except that the Audi isn't at the Lexus/Genesis level of quality/reliability...

I've always loved Scott Disick but that doesn't mean I'll ever go down on his anaconda.

The Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) needs to get their shit together by defining a clear vision of what each brand will deliver, and get rid of intra-brand competition/cannibalization. In other words, make each Adui the most compelling Audi it can be without attempting to cannibalize Porsche sales (e.g., new TT) or Lambo sales (e.g., new R8). The same could be said of the VW brand being positioned as a more practical, economical offering, which would preclude a VW branded SUV that's more expensive than the competing Audi.

Fighting and competing amongst themselves will not be helpful to VAG as a whole.

Mdarringer...Lexus and Genesis are NOT at the same level of quality. Look at Lexus/Toyota quality ratings which are at the top of JD Power and CR, then look at Hyundai/Kia which are around Average for all makes (Genesis ratings are not broken out but they are likely not far off from Hyundai and Kia just as Toyota is not too far off of lexus.
