VW and Hyundai Duke It Out In Ad Wars
We all have seen the humorous banter back and forth in the media between rivals BMW and Audi. Well now it appears Hyundai and VW are in the midst of a tongue in cheek war in the media as well.

Hyundai, firing the first salvo, wanted to make up for image and design concerns and coined a campaign with the slogan “the German among the Asians”.

VW never one to bear the brunt of a joke, just couldn’t hold back and fired back a counter in the following weeks.

Stay tuned these wars tend to escalate rather than be a one off.

Where in the article does it say that? You're a schmuck. This has nothing to do with a Japanese manufacturer.

Let me break it down for you Mr Schmuck. Obviously German engineering is revered among many. Hyundai is using their marketing strategy to claim their new Santa Fe is as well-engineered as a German vehicle, using some humor. Whether you believe it or not is up to you - it's just marketing!!! Sorry, if one article doesn't talk about your favorite Japanese company (Toyota, Honda, Nissan), and you're whining for attention.

if hyundai says it has germanic engineering that is superior amongst asians, then it says it has better engineering than the japanese manufacturers.

No it doesn't Rupert. A measurement of engineering doesn't exist, unless you have some magical scale. Hence the A=B, B>C, so A>C formula does not imply, as you imagine it to be.

Like I said, German engineering is well-perceived and respected by many. That doesn't mean Japanese engineering isn't as well (it is!) But like I said it's called MARKETING, and the advertisement wouldn't have the same effect if they used American/Japanese/Swedish characters, now would it?

Quite possibly, the BMW and Audi ones were fake (the Audi part at least) There is probability that these are fake as well (at least one)

Drive a Rabbit, drive a Corolla, and then come back and tell me Toyotas are better. The same goes for the Camry/Passat, though that depends on taste. The Passat is more fun to drive and has a more uptown interior.

actually, german cars should be sold at discounts, not premiums.

compare maintenance and repair bills after the warranties run out. NO ONE can match toyotas and hondas here.

Take into consideration that the Rabbit was just redesigned and the current Corolla has been around since 2003. Talk to me when the new Corolla comes out next year.

About the Camry and Passat, for the price of a loaded Passat you would be looking at Toyota Avalon or Lexus ES350/IS350 territory. The Camry is much better value for the money.

Hyundai has made great strides over the years, however I don't believe any of their cars are class leading. Take a look at a recent Edmunds comparison between the Hyundai Sante Fe, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-7.

The Sante Fe came in last with the RAV4 comming in 2nd and CX-7 taking first.

Oh S4 - the Passat 3.6l runs into Avalon territory. Even when (I think it was Motor Trend) did their comparison it was Avalon vs. Passat (there was no Camry there). And guess who won??? The Avalon did.
