Truckers Unite Against Federal Plan To Limit Big Rig Speeds
Truckers are warning that a government plan to electronically limit the speed of tractor-trailers will lead to highway traffic jams and possibly an increase in deadly run-ins with cars.

More than 150 people, most identifying themselves as independent truckers, have filed comments recently with the government about the proposed rule, unveiled last month by two federal agencies. There were only a few comments in favor.

The government has proposed requiring electronic speed limiters on all trucks and buses over 26,000 pounds manufactured after the regulation goes into effect. Speeds could be limited to 60, 65 or 68 miles per hour when the rule is finalized after a comment period that ends Nov. 7.

Limiting the speed of a vehicle will not work. Many of these vehicles(with full cargo) cannot actually get to 75MPH anyway. Putting vehicles on the same road with two difference speed limits has been tried - and it creates a problem between the trucks and the faster cars.

Actually - this is just the beginning though. Once they get this through - then they will realize that they can actually enforce the speed limit through electronic means. It will not be long before the government then has ALL vehicles speed limits controlled from outside the cockpit. Once this happens - there will be no need for sports cars - or drivers for that matter - all cars will go the same speed - accelerate the same way -and keep distance between cars to prevent rear-enders too. Why bother spending money for power that will not be used?

Raise your hand if you've ever driven a Hertz or Budget 24' moving truck with a 63mph governer?

If you think driving 70mph is dangerous, have a time limited driver move at a snails pace. The boredom would be incredible, out-of-state drivers in NC and SC (for sure) would become homicidal maniacs, and chaos would ensue.

If they're so concerned with accidents, make the left lane a passing only lane except for rush hour. Floridians used to be good about this rule. Now with the influx of virtually every dumb mother trucker on earth moving to South Florida, there's an overabundance of retards (pointing my finger at you North Carolina) in my neck of the woods.

Sounds reasonable to me to limit their speed and save fuel
