Musk Claims That Major Autopilot Update Will Be Next Week....Hopefully

Elon Musk “hopes” to introduce a new version of Tesla Motors Inc.’s Autopilot software on Wednesday, while the automaker remains under scrutiny for a fatal crash in May.

Tesla will roll out the newest version of the Autopilot software “if no last-minute issues discovered,” Musk said in a Twitter post. He had said this week that the latest version’s emphasis on radar and a GPS database over cameras to guide cars might have saved the life of a driver who was killed when his all-electric Tesla Model S sedan drove under a semi trailer that was crossing a Florida highway.

wow, what a slap in the victim's face...you roll out an "Update" that should have been launched with the tech in the first place...

And to add insult to injury, he wants to emphasize radar which has been a feature on the S class since they launched distronic plus(radar guided cruise control) over a decade ago...

This almost sounds as pitiful as Samsung's solution to their exploding phones by only allowing the battery to charge to 60%...

I love that the company that assisted Tesla with autopilot has cut all ties and run for the hills.

Delaying the autopilot rollout to today might have prevented that one death from someone using Autopilot incorrectly, but it also would not have prevented the deaths of those that were saved by autopilot. The hundreds of millions of miles of data are critical to continuous improvement of the system that will save far more lives in the long run than these edge cases.

ummm...that was so beautifully written, but remember...these "edge cases" you refer to, are innocent buyers connected to family, kids, spouses, and lives.

Not just additional miles of data...

Hopefully the body count doesn't rise any higher.

Very sad situation indeed. Corporate America is not known for putting the customer first, but Tesla takes it to a new low. Tesla is like a weird dystopian fantasy movie where the machines take over at the expense of the humans.

The video clip of the accident in China where the 22 yr old kid plows into a street cleaner truck, all caught on dash cam, is one of the most depraved and shocking things I've seen for a long time. Very sad.

Where was the outrage about all the deaths caused by GM, Toyota and Audi?

Carloslassiter believes we should not worry about Tesla maiming and killing passengers because others have gotten away with it. #TwistedLogic

carloslassiter!

were you born yesterday ? The was outrage for all 3, though I'm not sure if Toyota and Audi were justifyable, as both were proven tat the un intended acceleration were proven to be human error, whilst GM ignition switch deaths wer correct.
