Gone So Soon? Subaru Goes Suspiciously Silent On BRZ Future Plans

Apparently nobody at the Japanese automaker has yet confirmed the BRZ is being succeeded by a model as there is no news of the company starting work on the development of a new generation.

An executive at the Australian unit of Subaru recently talked to local media and said “I haven’t seen it on the product planning charts, but there’s talk of it. So I’m not sure,” commented Subaru Australia managing director Nick Senior, who discussed the issue while attending the launch of the Subaru Impreza in Australia.

Given that Toyota totally trusting Subaru to design a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe when Subaru only had experience with FWD and AWD resulted in a truly class-trailing product that has poor chassis control (it slides rather than grips) and is terribly underpowered contributed to a product that does not sell.

The BMW/Toyota platform that will result in a Supra could EASILY result in a Celica that would obliterate the FRS/GT86. My guess is that Toyota bailed and that meant Subaru had no business case for a BRZ.
