$3.8 Million bulletproof Rolls planned for Chinese show

i can understand the demand for it... but does bulletproofing it really cost a $3.5M premium over the regular phantom??

I'd rather have a less noticeable Suburban or Tahoe.
(Those are usually the models that get bulletproofed)

Or a bullet proof 7 Series, which costs about $100K.

And yes, I really don't see the point of tacking on another $3,500,000 for a bullet-proof body. Especially because it's about 10X the price of the original car (the panels; the entire ensemble is 11X more).

That 450hp engine won't be adequate for a car this heavy and large. If a much lighter and less-expensive Bentley Continental Flying Spur has a 550hp engine, wouldn't you think this car would have at least that much?

What ripp off for sure, they added about what $3 million dollars for bullet-proof. Remember many of this car are being sold to multimillionaire and billionaire and I'm talking in U.S currency. I know a friend who's Vietnam she say a Brand Toyota Camry cost between 50K-60K because all this stupid import tax or something. But back to the subject I saw a show on discovery channel where you bring in your car and they make it bullet-proof but they charge like between 150K or 200K for it. And yes you can bring in any car, Ferrari, Aston Martin and BMW you name it. $3.8 million dollar for a Rolls-Royce it to much if you ask me. But hey...it being sold to the "Ultra Rich" people.

I forget to mention that this thing is going to be really heavy. Because of the material they use to make it bullet-proof, so I would say add more horse power. Bring it up to 650 hp or something.

THe Bullet proof Maybach 62 was sold for $1.5Million.
Considering the regular Maybach 62 is more expensive then the RR Phantom,RR is really charging to much.

'Bullet proofing' isn't the only thing they do to these cars. There are several other aspects which are considered other than just loading it up with armour plate and bullet proof glass. I believe I'm right in saying that it's not uncommon for these cars to be resiliant to chemical attacks as well, with some kind of susainable atmosphere on the inside. Along with a whole raft of other features. I did once recieve information from BMW about the X5 and 7 series high security vehicles. But they are quite cagey about giving away all the specifications, as it makes it easier for people to figure out a way round the defences.

Also, there are different 'ballistic grades' -- some bulletproof cars are more bulletproof than others -- Some are only resistant to .45 weapons, some will resist repeated machine gun fire, and grenades.

I suspect (I would hope) the Rolls will be a much safer place to be than a bullet proof camry.

Now be serious - who pays that much for a car! $70 grand is enough.

I'm a big car fan, loved them since I was young but be serious - i wouldn't buy a car that costs more than a house!

Its clearly overpricing the Chinese. Then again, they might sell one or two in China.
