Game Changer? Chevrolet Bolt EV To Enter Market Priced Under $30,000 After Credits

The Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle will have a starting price of $37,495, including shipping, making it $29,995 after a federal tax credit available to many buyers, General Motors said today.

The price after the tax credit is $5 less than the $30,000 estimate that GM had provided when announcing the car in early 2015.

This car sounds great for its market segment. I truly hope GM is committed to this technology/car and spend some decent money in the mass marketing behind this model/technoogy and not the pin-point Facebook/social media that reaches a small number of people. It deserves better and would probably surprise of people that are on the fence about GM. Well, that's what I hope anyway.

Agreed 100%. If it tests out, has a decent interior then it certainly deserves a chance. GM does need to get the marketing right though. They don't have the Elon appeal as a visionary that also attracts people to Tesla. Not sure if GM can get around that hurdle and lure potential Tesla model 3 buyers and it may just be too different anyway. However they can surely snag some Leaf and Prius buyers and others looking for a decent city car.

Machiavellian marketing 101. GM gets the Bolt out on the market and production flowing smoothly. Just as the Model 3 starts to be delivered and customers with those $1000 deposits start to realize that they have a long wait time, the $35K units are even further away and Tesla has exhausted the fed $7500 tax credit , GM announces that it will take $2000 off the price of a Bolt for every $1000 Tesla Model 3 deposit refund check endorsed over to GM. Instant gratification.
