Tesla Pushes Out Major Software Update To Owners

As promised by Elon Musk last week, Tesla started rolling out the update last night and now we get every single detail of what the automaker is describing as “the biggest update since the introduction of the Model S”.

We already revealed all the main features, but you still have some interesting tidbits of information about how to use them with Tesla’s release notes, which act as a quick instruction manual.

Here are some of the details released by Tesla

I am 100% positive that this is the "lawyer" update (hidden) with some cosmetics to disguise that fact.

Would love to hear any Spies who have a Tesla explain what really changed (aside from graphics).

I suspect the user/driver must check off and "agree" to a bunch of liability waivers that are newly drafted by the Tesla legal department.

I didn't get the update yet and don't have autopilot hardware on mine unfortunately (2013), but from what I have seen on other sites (Teslarati is a good one), this is a complete overhaul of the entire UI.

Autopilot looks like the biggest improvement, Radar will now be a primary instead of secondary input and the system can detect 2-3 cars in front of you instead of 1 car, everything detected is displayed in real-time on the dash instead of approximations (if a car is between lanes it will show up that way). It will also harass you much more if you hands are not on the wheel, unless you are going less than 8 mph (i.e. Silicon Valley and LA traffic). Theoretically it also would have prevented the SEMI accident where the camera could not pick up the truck. It is the first car to use radar this way, we'll see how much more effective the revamped system is without new physical hardware.

The next release (8.1) is supposed to enable true self-driving functionality based on Navigation if you are on the freeway--meaning it will actually take freeway exits and go from freeway to freeway based on your destination.

Given how much you cheerlead for Tesla, why isn't a company car a part of your employment?

Wow - a 2013 Telsa - you are so old school!

You must also have a high ability to defer gratification. My friends with Tesla's say that every 6 months (and this is before this current and constant barrage of Tesla 'discounting')they would get emailed (and then called) by a Tesla rep asking if they wanted to 'upgrade' their Tesla at a ridiculously cheap rate.

My best friend, who may be Tesla "user zero" started with one of the first Model S, Tesla gave him a great deal on a higher spec Model S, 18 months later (which had its share of problems and may in fact have been a lemon)and then 6 months after that car was sorted, Tesla talked him into an early Model X (also may have been a lemon but which is now fixed and generally functioning).

My friend said that Tesla made the upgrades so cheap, they were almost irresistible. The fact that you are driving such an old one leads me to believe it was 'pre-owned' (dirt cheap on the Tesla website) or else you decided not to roll the dice on a quite likely defective newer one.

Thoughts?

Bought it new and it had 3 miles when I got it at the factory, put in the order well before they started shipping (in 2011), waited 2 years to get it. It is a model that they only made 400 units of, 40KWh (60KWh with a software limit). This is when the base price was $47,500 after federal and state incentives, so for a new Tesla it was an insanely good deal. So far, have never had a sales call offering an upgrade for a higher-specced version. Will probably go with a well-equipped Model 3 as my next upgrade.

Seriously thinking about the P100D as my next car, do you know the 155 MPH speed limiter can be removed??
