Justice Department Assessing How Much To Fine VW And Not Put Them Out Of Business
The U.S. Justice Department is assessing how big a criminal fine it can extract from Volkswagen AG over emissions-cheating without putting the German carmaker out of business, according to two people familiar with the negotiations.

The government and Volkswagen are trying to reach a settlement by January, the people said, before a new U.S. administration comes into office and replaces the political appointees who have been overseeing the process.

The slope need not be that slippery if executives can be thrown in jail, for a long time. The precedence should have started with the bankers back in 2009 - 2011. Or the savings and loan in the 90s. Or the defense contractors back in the 80s. Or the oil/gas back in the ... The self policing would probably have been more effective. But what the hell do I know, we'll just let the free market regulates itself.

Make them hurt, real bad!!!

After the multi billion dollar fine, greater than $15 billion, VW can make it up to everyone by offering insane financing and lease deals for a year.

I would not mind a $15,000 Gti or $25,000 Golf R
