Tesla Ends Discounts As Musk Declares Possibly The Best Quarter Ever

Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent a company-wide email to employees in which he urged them to “build and deliver every car they possibly can” since the company was on the “razor edge” of profitability.

Today, a month later almost to the day, he sent another company-wide email, but this time to congratulate employees on what he describes as “likely the best ever [quarter] in the Tesla history”. But he also added a reminder not to give discounts on new cars.

Earlier this month, we reported that Tesla was in a full ‘end-of-the-quarter push’ with more inventory cars and buyers reporting unusual discounts.

That's an easy thing for a CEO to say on October 1st. Let's all be on the lookout for the "lease deals" and "pre-owned" and "Tesla December to Remember" SPAM mail starting just before Thanksgiving. If you want a Tesla, walk into the store December 1st and start dealing.

Duh, like Elon Musk didn't know the sales reps were discounting!

I'd be very surprised if discounting is over for Tesla.

Tesla doesn't have traditional sales reps. The people in stores do not get paid a commission on sales, same as Apple Store workers do not get paid if someone buys a Macbook or iPhone. I wonder where the discounts were made for non-inventory cars.

There is a chance they turned a profit in Q3, might be in the black for one quarter before going "light red" in prep for Model 3 ramp up.
