CAR WARS! German Sports Cars Go HEAD-to-HEAD! BMW M2 vs. Porsche 718 Cayman
When it comes to epic car battles, it's hard to dispute greatness of the BMW 1M vs. the Porsche Cayman R reviews. There's a handful of reasons for this but it always seems to boil down to a handful of key points:

1. Price;
2. Engine;
3. Track times;
4. Overall driving experience; and,
5. It's clear that these two vehicles are pure and lack many of the things people find revolting, even in today's exotica and other high-performance machines.

Those cars, however, are old hat. The changing of the guard has happened. That said, when I saw a clip of the all-new M2 versus the Porsche Cayman S, I knew I had to bring it to you.

This is yet another close review; however, we are interested in which auto you would pick. Would it be the BMW or the Porsche? What say you, Spies?

So we’ve taken a BMW M2 and a Porsche 718 Cayman S. And we’d like to know two things: which of these two German sports coupes is faster around our handling circuit, and which of them is more fun.

The M2 is front-engined and has a straight-six cylinder turbocharged engine making 365bhp. The 718 Cayman S, though, is mid-engined – a more racy layout – but these days has to make do with a mere four-cylinder engine, albeit one making 345bhp. Our testers are standing by to answer both questions.

Let us know if you'd have the Cayman or the M2 in the comments below.

As much as I detest the 2 Series, I'd rather have it over the Super Beetle.

I want the Cayman S or GTS (6cyl version though so have to get used or get a new one quick). Come on Matt, Super Beetle really?? Sweet handling mid engined Porsche is a bit different than the Super Beetle. On the other hand I have driven a couple of seriously hot rodded Beetles and they could be fun for 10-15min.

I prefer those Porsche Speedster Replicars with the modded aircooled engines. They are loads of fun. As far as these the Cayman is obviously a bit quicker in the corners in stock form. However in day to day driving and away from the track I think I might prefer the M2. You get a real 6 cylinder motor noise in it instead of a soupped up Ottenger clone. Frankly even the aircooled flat fours sound better than this watercooled version. My next question is it even possible to order a stripped out Cayman? The M2 seems like the better buy now.
