Mercedes CEO Admits That Tesla Is Currently The Leader In EV Market

You can’t blame to Germans for not having a long-term vision. In interviews at the 2016 Paris Motor Show after unveiling Mercedes’ new all-electric ‘EQ’ brand, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche admitted that Tesla is currently the leader in electric vehicles, but he plans for his company to catch up to Tesla and become the new leader by 2025.

Then asked by a Bloomberg reporter whether or not Tesla is the main competitor for Mercedes ‘EQ’, Zetsche said:

Apparently, Dieter Zetsche believes in the "Phantom" Menace because Tesla couldn't possibly survive next year let alone be a threat in 2025.

You're smoking crack if you think Tesla can't survive another year. Please short sell TSLA stock--you have no idea what's coming.

Take it easy SanJoseDriver. I think he was being sarcastic.

There are some people on here who declared Tesla would go BK in 6 months or less (some gave it 1 year), but nguyenvuminh was not one of them.

Who is this clown Dieter Zetsche and what are his qualifications for commenting on Tesla?

I prefer to get my information from MDarringer and Agent009, thank you, since thy have are TOTALLY unbiased and have no agenda at all.

:-) Calm down SanJoseDriver - you need to look back at my older posts supporting Tesla's effort at introducing new technology and new distribution methodology (or any other maker for that matter, not just Tesla). I'm all for it. I was being sarcastic to those who portray themselves as financial whiz. For all I know, Tesla may thrive or go out of business in 5 years, but I just don't like those who wish their demise so early in the process. Same criticism to those who insist Tesla is not a competitor to xxx, yyy, zzz; because clearly GM and MB and BMW are thinking exactly that. So chill, OK :-)

He's sandbagging...won't take M-B that long with resources at hand.

Exactly. He is calling Tesla the leader so that when Mercedes very easily surpasses Tesla's low level of engineering that Mercedes can claim the crown.

Incorrect! "Many" parts are NOT sourced from Mercedes. This is what is sourced from Mercedes: "transmission" shift stalk, indicator stalk, cruise control stalk, air suspension components, steering wheel, door window controls.

@MD: "This is what is sourced from Mercedes: "transmission" shift stalk, indicator stalk, cruise control stalk, air suspension components, steering wheel, door window controls." -- you are right! This is the "low level of engineering that Mercedes can claim the crown". And it speaks volume on how much you know about Tesla's engineering.

We are lucky you're stuck with selling Ford and Huyndai.

HenryN - MDarringer doesn't sell Ford. Remember, he has a stake in a dealer, Lincoln and Hyundai, which means he knows more about car industry, the economy, the global economy and society as a whole than all of us put together.
