Government agencies "to form a new coalition with the mission of ending traffic fatalities within the next 30 years. According to a statement, the Transportation Department will provide $1 million annually for the next three years to fund grant programs for the effort".

An impressive goal, but more impressive is the cost to do it: $1 f*king million dollars!! What do they do with $1M ?? not enough to staff 10 bureaucrats to answer the phones.

Supposedly these are intelligent people making these claims.

Take human error out of the equation then substitute vehicle system error

Because we don't already have enough government up and in our asses already? Lets just drop the speed limit down to 10 MPH nationwide so nobody ever dies as a result of a collision and then we can all sing Kumbaya holding hands, dance and be safe...

Bring on Autopilot and self driving cars because long term we are all screwed. Between the war on the car, photo radar, cameras, dash cams, GPS tracking software, bitching wife/hooker (or both) in passenger seat, fewer stick shift cars, sensors for everything and electronic drivers aids, run flat tires -the joy and bliss of driving/living is slowly being eroded away.

Bring on the tech so I can officially give up and be a complete passenger whom can find pleasures elsewhere whilst being transported in bubble wrap safely at warp speed of 10 mph to work as I consume porn, text, snort bacon and dumbify my senses.

I'm only 44 and already I am starting to miss the good old days of "man and machine" -not "soy milk steamed latte sipping gender neutral auto firmware updated transportation mechanism" future that we are headed for.

Darwin had it right...use it or loose it as species evolve. Between increased regulations dumbing people down and increased technology moving toward artificial intelligence, humans will be replaced by thinking robots at the top of the food chain.
