SPIED: Whoa! All-New Pics Of The Entry-Level Jaguar J-Pace Have Us Wondering If The X1, NX, GLA, QX30 Should Be Worried
Jaguar is in the middle of a renaissance. The once legendary British luxury automaker has been hobbled in recent years. That's because, frankly, its vehicles were not all that compelling.

In a highly evolving luxury space, the company just rolled out its very first sport-utility vehicle called the F-Pace. In my neighborhood I've already seen a handful, which is good news for the leaping cat. While we've spied an F-Pace SVR under development, there's something a bit more intriguing for the masses.

That would be the rumored J-Pace. For those of you not in the loop, this would be a compact SUV follow up to the mid-size F-Pace.

While we tend to see mid-size SUVs selling in high volume, vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class are doing well — from a sales perspective — in the luxury market. From where we sit it's clear that demand doesn't appear to be slowing down for SUVs.

Enter the J-Pace.

As Land Rover has firm control over the large SUV market with its super hip and utilitarian models, it appears Jaguar is going to try to own the road-going market with its sleeker designs and sportier driving dynamics.

Although stupidly named like the F-Face, J-Pace along with the F-Pace are Jaguars ONLY hopes to remain viable as a car company. The XJ is an unmitigated disaster compared to the A8 and 7 Series and comparing it to the S Class is laughable. The same is true of Camry oops XF and Corolla oops XE. The F Type needed to be priced like a Stingray to be a significant seller.

Ian Callum also needs to go. He has ZERO imagination.

Speed the J-Pace to market I say.

While I completely agree with the "pace" part of the name - I am not sure I agree with the rest of your comment. The XJ NEVER competed well with the top end Luxury/Sport German cars - but it wasn't meant to - it was basically a Luxury car - emphasis on British Luxury - something the Germans would not understand. There was a time when the XJ rated above Rolls Royce. The other sedans actually are pretty good - although their interiors are questionable.

What is clear - is that the whole market is going to Crossovers - and that ALL of them - also rans or not - need good crossover product to survive.
