Really?! The All-New Lincoln Continental ALREADY Has A Recall — Same Start As The Ford Escape?
Oh, boy. Not again.

This is what I am thinking when I hear about the all-new Lincoln Continental kicking off a recall. According to Ford Motor Company only 300 units have been delivered to customers but from my perspective this is not a good start.

While the recall is a silly one, it still is a recall. According to reports, the LED headlights were retrofitted with the incorrect lens optics that comply with federal safety standards for turn signals.

This isn't the first time that Ford has delivered an all-new vehicle and it was given a black eye with a recall right off the bat. This too happened with the Ford Escape when it was given an all-new generation. While the Escape eventually got its footing, it did have a slow start due to this hiccup.

Has lightening struck twice?

Will this harm the lovefest associated with the all-new Continental? Or, is this something that's just to be swept under the rug as consumer interest is running high?

...According to the American automaker, the HID headlights on the Lincoln Continental may have been assembled using LED lenses that don’t have the correct lens optics to comply with federal visibility requirements for turn signals. Lincoln is unaware of any accidents related to the issue and the recall affects 1,876 units assembled from June 14 to September 23 at Ford’s Flat Rock factory...

This will in no way harm the Continental. The Flat Rock idle is what does not thrill me.

The advance sales of the Continental at local dealers here in NJ has been epic - and I doubt that this particular recall will cause a problem - since it really does not create a problem - the cars can still be driven - and the fix will be relatively fast and easy. It would be different if they put a wrong part in the engine and it was possible it would BLOW up the car.

Indeed. The waiting list for the Continental is long. This has "hit" written all over it.

They have a few at the dealerships down here in Dallas. I really like the car but I do see some odd cost cutting measures in it. I also find it interesting that there have been no reviews by major publications or shows on this car.
The headlight thing is no big deal... it won't harm sales and most people won't even know.

Along that line, Lincoln obviously expended some major effort to redo, the MKZ, yet the interior makes wide use of pieces and trim easily found on a base Fusion.

Is this company still in business? I can't recall (no pun intended) the last time I saw a Lincoln on the road.

They are on track for 116K sales this calendar year and if they can ramp up production of the Continental to meet demand, they could easily have their best sales in 10 years. The MKC and the MKX do quite well. And PS, you did not make a pun.
