2019 Cadillac CT8 – The biggest S-Class and BMW 7 rival! The latest details about new CT8.

Cadillac prepares to launch an all-new luxury sedan, named 2019 Cadillac CT8. It will be the main competitor to the Mercedes S-Class. Not that long ago Cadillac launched the CT6, a premium executive car aimed directly at the 5 Series and E-Class. However, the car is a bit strange because it is quite a bit larger than its two rivals and it is also noticeably lighter. This made it a great alternative for those wanting a premium car with the driving characteristics of a sporty sedan.

Unfortunately, it also means that people looking for absolute comfort don’t have an option from Cadillac. In order to solve that it seems that a new car might be launched in order to be slotted above the CT6.

Like the CT6, the rumored 2019 Cadillac CT8 would make use of the same Omega platform. However, for this application, it would very likely be lengthened slightly in order to accommodate larger engines in the front without taking anything from the cabin. So far the car is nothing more than just a rumor, and a Cadillac official did say a while ago that they would scrap the design. However, more recently inside sources suggested that the CT8 is real, and they are working on it. This time around the car would be aimed directly at the Mercedes S-Class and the new BMW 7 Series.

Who wrote this: However, the car is a bit strange because it is quite a bit larger than its two rivals. Its not bigger its actually slightly shorter? And, while I like this idea Cadillac absolutely must get a new version of the current Buick Enclave sooner rather than later. This 9 year old platform is still flying off dealer lots and Cadillac should have had one years ago. I cannot understand the thinking? When they shuttered Saturn they could have used that model and transformed it into a Caddy. I love the CTS and CT-6 and I even like the XTS and have had an ATS but the market is saying Crossovers and thats currently where the money is. If I'm not mistaken the new XT-5 has sold more than the CTS and CT-6 combined. And while I prefer a car the larger market is in SUV's & Crossovers... for goodness sakes get going. Cash from crossovers will help justify ANYTHING else you want to build such as a proper 2 pass convertible and an Eldorado successor. I'd love to a Cadillac like the old 280SL or like my old 560SL a car w/character and a wood dash. The current SL's are gaudy and insanely expensive. I don't like the current German coupes either but even so why copy them, put out an American coupe and one that looks American....ugh!

Really? This is going to challenge the Mercedes Benz S-Class?

To my eyes, there's nothing about this form that suggests luxury. It looks like a full-size Chevy with inspired-by-Audi headlights.

Let's reconvene a year after launch and check in on its success. I'm putting my bets on the S-class remaining unthreatened by this challenger.

I'm not a Crossover or SUV fan, and agree they need a flagship. The S is a classic and is certainly the benchmark and is so aspirational. To say I have a new S Class is something a lot of people want to be able to say. I don't see MB ever dropping the ball here either so to topple the S will be a huge accomplishment for any brand. That said you gotta be in the game so I hope this CT-8 is fabulous to look at. All things being equal from a mechanical and technology perspective, GORGEOUS could sway the vote. I'd much rather have a gorgeous American car than any German car. Just look at what cars used to look like and what they look like now. All shades of gray vs gorgeous colors. I personally like some bling on my car so give me some chrome or stainless trim.

I wonder how many negatives this will bring, perhaps a new Spies record?

I believe you're not alone! I also believe if Cadillac created a truly gorgeous car, a serious head-turner, and made a respectable vehicle that didn't necessarily aim to "kill" another brand/model (such as the MB S-class), then lots of people who desire a good American car would surely notice it, and vote with their wallet.

The 1964 Mustang is a good example of this. It was not a sports car, but it looked beautifully sporty. It had vinyl seats when cloth was common. It had a relatively modest price tag, but looked like it was worth a lot more. It became an instant success, and remains a classic to this day! Quite understandably, the "average" American doesn't want to feel average. They want to feel good about what they drive, and if you can make them feel great, then you'll have a winner :-)

I think this is a good start--some intriguing design ideas that will definitely catch people's attention, but also some flaws shouldn't have made it this far...the size of the grille is ridiculous, and the headlights are totally disproportional for the mass and volume of the overall form.

As far as challenging the S-class...well, I don't think this will do it, but not because of design...I think the design has a lot of potential, and people want and will accept new design ideas if they're good, no matter where they come from...even if (especially if?) they challenge traditional norms.

But, ultimately, I don't think this will stand up to the S-class because design, by itself, can't do it. And Cadillac just does not have all of the qualities that it needs (yet) to regain its former crown of luxury. They're making progress on design, and holding their own on technology, but they still don't have the quality, the brand value, the market position and mindshare, and other intangibles that it takes to be a top-tier world-class luxury producer.

I meant contender, not producer (of course they can produce...)

This was definitely not an article to use. The source article seems like it's a year or so old. There's no date. This is basically a "rumor"-type article as the CT8 is here currently on the market. No speculation needed.

The CT8 will come close to being a formidable S-class/7-series competitor by offering similar trim levels...including an AMG/M type of top trim as well. Cadillac has to provide a large content-laden sedan with AWD & a meaty V8. The proof is in the interior materials, instrumentation, & transmission/powertrain options.

This is a fake article. There seems to be no editorial control on Autospies.

Matt, isn't that the engine developed with Ferrari?
