Wait..What? Next Gen 5 Series GT To Become 6 Series GT, But 5 Series Sedan Stays A 5 Series

The next BMW 5 Series GT has been spied testing, with clear revisions to the front- and rear-end styling.

In a change to its model line-up, the successor to the 5 Series GT, which is already undergoing durability testing in prototype form, is set to adopt more individual styling in a move aimed at distancing it from the saloon and Touring. These latest images come from Autocar reader Matt Cummings.

What they should really do is ditch this silly idea they came up with and either bring the touring back or make a raised up version of the touring a la Audi Allroad/Subaru Outback.

I know. I know. The GT comes in for a lot of abuse. However having owned one it is a car that does many things very well and became a family favorite. Current model was built on 7 series chassis providing a huge interior with great leg room in the back. Being slightly higher than a sedan but lower than an SUV enabled both young and old to enter and exit easily. With the rear seats down you could haul tons of things well beyond the BMW wagon I had. Value wise I got a 7 series size and quality vehicle at a 5 series price even before the large discount that was offered because of slow sales. To own one was to love one. Reminded me of the old song lines " Marry an ugly woman and you'll be happy the rest of your life."" Man your wife is ugly." "But she sure can cook!"

Well - why not?

The 5GT is ugly but it is actually quite a good car.

Hard to get over those looks. Better to make a more premium association with the 6-series anyway. Perhaps some of the old folks who buy the 6's - will want someplace to stash their golf clubs/gardening purchases?

Makes sense
