Audi Facing SEVERE Cutbacks To Pay For DieselGate Cheating

Audi will no longer design and engineer its own platforms for future vehicles, according to German media reports, as the VW Group embarks on a sweeping cost-saving exercise to pay for huge losses associated with the Dieselgate scandal.

Respected German business magazine Der Spiegel revealed that Audi boss Rupert Stadler has indicated to company staff that "all future investments" at Audi are now "under scrutiny".

The VW supervisory board is expected to meet on 18 November to rubber stamp spending plans for the Group’s various automotive brands.

VW has reserved $19.8 billion on its balance sheet to meet dieselgate claims and expenses. My guess is more than twice that amount globally causing real long term issues for them to sell brands, cut more models, cut people, cut r&d, delay new models, etc etc. Could be wrong but time will tell.

It's interesting to note that Audi is VW's "cash cow", and now VW is talking about putting the cow on a tight diet. Guess what? The profit flow coming in from Audi will decline, too.

We might be witnessing the end of an era for the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG). Is Porsche next?

I wish that Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini would separate from VW. That is after they cut my check for my A3 TDI.

A look back on the corporate takeover fight between Porsche and Volkswagen: http://www.automobilemag.com/news/porsche-and-volkswagen-what-happened/

If the Porsche's plan went through with the takeover of VW, they may not have been in the predicament of today. The German government was behind VW at the time. I hope Porsche will soon get free from this VAG mess.

Audi is the "Avalon" of German cars.

Hey Matt, just as a data point, I've owned 4 BMWs over 18 years, one a constant and as many as 3 in the garage at the same time. I've loved them all!

I currently own a Q5, my first Audi. I'm 16 months and over 21,000 miles in. It's the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned, and so far, not a single defect, squeak, or rattle. I'm loving it, so I can't say I agree with your view that Audi is a "lesser" German car. I understand that lots of people have contempt for Audi vehicles, but I don't share it.

I'll keep you posted on my opinion about my Q5 in case it changes as the car ages.
