It could be sexist or it could make sense. While I don't believe that only moms should take care of kids, many have a car full of kids and getting them into and out of their car seats in standard spaces is tough. Because of the tightness of the spaces, doors don't open enough to be fully convenient and people can be incredibly impatient as parents get kids in and out of the car safely.

China being more traditional may be on to something.

From personal experience I know how time consuming it can be with 4 kids and a teenager getting into and out of a vehicle. I'd love "parent" parking with extra-wide spaces, but the Republican in me is dead set against more nannyism laws.
