Baby Rolls

Baby Rolls
Work has begun on the sensational new baby Rolls-Royce.
Plans to make a smaller luxury car to take on Bentley's Flying Spur were revealed in Issue 852 of AutoExpress, and bosses said at the Paris Motor Show that it will be launched "within four years". Meanwhile, the stunning Phantom cabrio will join the range next year.

Congratulations BMW, you have officially made one of the world's most prestigious ad heralded marks a car that can be afforded by mere faux rich people.

Even worst a Rolls-Royce shares a platform with a sub $100K BMW.

That makes me want to vomit.

Its STFU time now is it ?
Sounds just like Yesterday I heard Someone Yakkin along about Super Luxury Cars not Supposed to Share Platforms with Lesser Models while Virtually Everybody on this site told YOU to be Quiet.

Now BMW Emulates the Other Company and VOILA you get Real Upset when Someone Reminds You of Your Rant.

No RR in the FS area.
Expect this to be a Bentley Arnage competitor.

Either way, both the Flying Spur and the Baby Rolls-Royce are clear affordable versions of their former Arnage/Mulliner and Phantom/Corniche counterparts.

BMW has taken Rolls-Royce off of its prestigious pedestal of true luxury marks where only Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Maybach once lived and brought it down to a place where people considering an Aston Martin Vanquish of F430 Spider can afford to buy it.

Sharing a platform with a 7-series, is the sadest news ever.

Thank you BMW! Rolls-Royce is now the brand for middle managers, wannabe Jay-Zs and bench warming athletes.

Absolutely a disgrace to the Flying Lady adorning the front grille and an absolute disgrace to Rolls-Royce.

Getting a little curious as to how some people drive more exclusive and expensive cars than you, Logical?

I'm in real estate and investing on the side. More specifically commercial real estate such as plazas, shopping malls, offices, etc ... and I invest on high-end real estate.

It is quite the lucrative profession, I must say.

I prefer to move in social circles where total net price of cars owned at any single given time is over $200K and you must have owned at least 7 BMWs.

Fortunately, your too poor to be included in that category.

I'm just giving you some of your assanine comments back at you.

I of course must be poor because I drive an Audi as well.

Yup, right on Logical you make total sense.

It's funny how I drive a rebadged Volkswagen according to you and I can look down on BMW drivers, such as yourself, who clearly have not reached the same financial status as me, or for that matter status within the brand they choose to support - BMW.

Of course, Audi owners must be so poor that affording a BMW is out of the question even though their Audi costs more than the respective BMW.

A greater sense of logic and a broader view of looking at the world in general might take you a long way Logical.

Oops. I forgot, you are too closeminded and subsequently too poor to be in my social circle. Cya

LOL at GermanNut. You make me laugh (at you)

When Bentley make a 6 litre W12 car and sell it for £115k that deserves a place on this prestigious pesestal you speak of... but when Rolls - whose car currentley costs £250k - decide to make a car to compete with the far cheaper bentleys, it's the worst thing ever?

And yes, it will mean that 'poorer', or should that be 'less rich'?, people will be able to buy it... so what? People with lots of money will still buy the Phantom which will still show off their wealth!!

Did the hideous A2 lessen the appeal of the A8L?

You're argument doesn't make sense.

oh.. of course... I forgot - you are so much richer than everyone else you think you know what's right for Rolls-Royce?

People thought BMW buying the Rolls-Royce name would be the end of the company... it wasn't - they do good business and are looking to expand the range with new models.

I appreciate that you have an opinion, but I don't think you are stupid enough to actuallu believe what you posted here (or maybe you are).. it's more likely that you're just using it to have a swipe at BMW.

It's okay for Volkswagen to go ahead and okay the Bentley Flying Spur. This was a good move on their part for two reasons.

The first being, no other not-so-affordable company such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Maybach had a semi-affordable car under $200K.

The second being Volkswagen was the first to go with the decision.

I never said Bentley had remained on the luxury pedestal.

I find it sickening though that BMW must copy the move of Volkswagen, obviously due to their successful decision to create the cheaper Continental GT and Continental Flying Spur models and as a result move yet another once-luxury mark to a mark that is a cheaper version of its prestigious and exclusive former self.

BMW 760Li: £90-95k (with a few toys)
..
..
..
..
..
..
Rolls-Royce Phantom: £256k

Thats a big share of the market to be missing out on. It does make sense to have something in between. It is an OBVIOUS thing to do.. just because two companies arrive at the same conclusion doesn't mean they copied each other.

Hasn't Bugatti said they are going to make an uber-expensive saloon car? hmm, are they copying Rolls-Royce? or just doing the obvious thing most car makers want to do: EXPAND.. These days platform/part sharing and intercompany relations make it so easy for manufacturers to develop a product to fit a new market. Those that don't get left behind. Look at all the new models Audi are bringing out, the Q7 - the R8.. and Porsche! first they make a 4×4, now a saloon!.

GermanNut,

Your argument is terrible, it makes you sick that Rolls Royce is following Bentley by building a semi-more affordable car in their line-up? It's called competition, expanding, & making money.

Without making moves like this how is a company like RR ever suppose to grow? Especially if they're only making models over a quater million dollars.

IMO Having an entry level model priced at $100 000 wouldn't lower a company like RR's image to what you state GermanNut.

Once again GermanNut you've boosted my belief that you're crazy man.

If they want to compete with the lower class cars, they should not call it Rolls Royce anymore. That's the whole point of owning a RR, being basically the only one on the road with this car.
It's exactly like you're saying Patek Philippe is producing a watch similar to an Omega for instance just to compete.
GermanNut i completely agree with you.

JUGNU,

I agree. People are smoking some serious crack around here. They all need to CALM DOWN. If RR lowest MSRP was $800k USD, then people would be whining that they are losing their cachet if they sold a model for $650k for the "mere faux rich".

Some people here, God, with their lack of maturity, I doubt they are even a janitor. Real estate investors? Who is doing all the work for you guys? You are probably the kid brother who carries crayons and a "sketchpad" for all your great ideas!

I disagree MercBasher. Yes, it is good for a compnay to grow MikeG. I believe the image is most important and Rolls-Royce will no longer be the statement of luxury and success.

It will be for people to just say they have a Rolls-Royce and these people will not be the CEO's etc...

A planet where 200K+ cars are affordable.

I do not consider a car in the 200-300K range exclusive.

The only exclusive cars to me are cars above the $300K price range such as a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Maybach 57 & 62 as well as select Bentley models.

Exclsuvity is a relative thing. To someone that earns 20k a year a 60k car is exclusive. To someone that earns 150k a year, 600k might be exclusive. Simply because if you can't afford you are excluded from owning it - the definition of exclusivity.

I prefer to think of exclusive as rare. All you need to buy a Phantom is Money, then you just order one.

the Ital BMW Nazca C2... that's exclusive,
the Sultans Bentley off-roader, that's exclusive...

the Phantom? that's just expensive.
