Would You Finally Buy A 5 Series Gran Turismo If It Looked As Good As This?
New Year’s is a magical time of the year where everyone gets a pass to reflect on their errs of the past year and relieve themselves of guilt by hitting the reset button, promising to change their flawed ways by the same time next year.

For automakers the process takes a bit longer, about once for every model’s product cycle, which takes an average of seven years. BMW was widely reprimanded for building the ugly as heck 5 Series GT, but now that it’s killed the hatchback off in favor of a 6 Series GT, it has the opportunity to fix things.

Gave my old 5GT to my daughter-in-law and my wife who misses it dearly made me promise her to buy her the next generation.

Its certainly better looking than the current generation 5GT. Not for me, but its definitely an improvement.

I don't know how many BMW sold over its 7 yr run, but (as per PUGPROUD) the 3 people who I know who have owned them, completely LOVED them. Two of my friends who got early ones, leased second ones when their lease was up (and did so very cheaply, I will add!).

It looks kind of like a Tesla Model S, which also looks exactly like the new Porsche Panamera, which is related to the Audi A7 - so maybe BMW is onto something here.

Maybe BMW keeps 80% of the utility and space, doubles the amount of sportiness (at least in appearance) and maybe then they will have a hit on their hands?

If they can ditch the ugly HUNCHback look they might be on to something. With the 6 series going "away" the 5GT could replace the 6GC.

I think the article should have said - if it looked as "POORLY" as this.
This is starting to look like an old Corolla from the rear.

There's nothing you can do to make this car look good from the back.

If they could move it to a 4 door coupe (ie. a7, panamera) vs a SUV/Car mess I think they will have much better success.

And that would make it a 6GC replacement.
