Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG Shots

Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG Shots
Yes, another AMG, and no, there’s no stopping them. Not that we're complaining. When the CL63 AMG arrives here next March it will be the thirteenth model in the AMG line-up (the S63, which we’ll report on next week, is the fourteenth) and frankly, it's bloody marvellous.
Muscular yet agile, sophisticated and powered by a magnificent engine, it makes the Bentley GT look frumpy and cumbersome. If you have a loose £105,000 knocking about, there’s nothing that comes close to matching the CL63 AMG.

I've come to love the front view of the car. Looking straight on, it looks great. But somehow as you move towards the back, something just goes wrong. I think it may be the tail lights.

I agree the back isn't up to how well the front looks, but overall I think it's a sweet looking car. I haven't driven it yet, but I'm guessing it's going to drive as good if not better then the Mercedes CLS, which is no small feat.

Unfortunately, I think the CL is in a weird market, it's roomier than a 6 Series but not as sporty, and it's not as roomy as the 7 Series or the A8 but it's more sporty. And it's not a ragtop like the CLK. Tough positioning.

Agent004, it is a bigass, luxurious, sexy, rip-roaring, Benz cruiser! Who wouldn't want one? Because it doesn't match up on paper with a 6-Series spec for spec is no reason to not desire one. In my opinion, this car sits perfectly on its own and does not need validation from other entries in the market to make it desirable.

The CL is a whole level of luxury above the 6 series. The $30k price difference is a whole other market - specifically, the conspicuous luxury market. People with a whole lotta money who wants you to know that they gotta whole lotta money.

The car itself, objectively, is a nice luxury sports coupe, but is a bit oversized and overweight to be a true sports coupe.

I love it. Seriously considering the CL500 as my next car. Beautiful, elegant, power and luxury. Love it.

BMW503i- I'm with you. I put down a deposit on an R8 on Wed. Called back yesterday and told them to cancle. The more I see this car, the more beautiful it becomes. Funny thing is, one of the things I love about this car is the back. When you see it in person it all makes sense. The creases on the profile run right through the tail lights. Its really great.

This car looks great, but it also looks like an Acura from certain angles. I just wish they would change that rear windsheild.

Cl-450 said to come to US as lower alternative with SL-350. CL-450 to be around 65-75K

Then why don't they bring the S450 here? That would bring a lot more buyers; specifically, people who don't need 380hp at their disposal. It would also knock a lot off of the class-highest base pricetag of $86K.

But that hasn't stopped me from loving the S550.

Will, enough faking already. I, too, used to think I hated the big new Mercedes models. But they're the most desirable Mercedes's ever and it's hard not to love them.

The CL is what the Lexus SC should have become.

Oh and, sweet shot. Looks amazing in black.

This, a 911 Turbo or an R8? Decisions, decisions...

I thought they were gonna bring the S450 here. I could see teh CL450 and the SL350 coming to the states. I think there would be a good market for them. Especially the SL350. The reason we got an XK was because the SL550 was a little too much cash. If they knocked 15K off the price of the SL550 I would definitely consider the 6 cylinder SL. As much as I'd like 380 hp I think I could get by with 268. It would be faster than our 220 HP CLK320 and have more class too.

"The reason we got an XK was because the SL550 was a little too much cash."

I don't think that's much of a compromise! The new XK is beautiful; it's even fresher than the SL.

Congrats.

This model is ugly, I love mercs, but the back looks retarded, the CLS is hands down the most beautifull four door in the market, but this car comes no where close to beautifull..

Will-

"S550 is average at best. You want to talk about a "bland" LS? Take away the Endeavor fenders and the S-Class is a Nissan. Not to mention this CL. Mercedes designers are losing it! The Mercedes badge is what's tricking your eyes."

Will, I think you're the one pretending here. The S-Class is simply stunning. I tried not to like it, I really did. But it's hard to resist. The S-Class is probably the best-looking big Benz I've ever seen, inside and out. Average at best? It combines effortless power with unbelievable, mouthwatering luxury. If it were a Lexus, I'd still love it. In fact, it would be easier for me to love it. But it's not. And to me, the new LS isn't even close. It doesn't offer any aesthetic appeal or controversy, which is quite the fad these days, and the interior could be in the next IS for all I see. It needs distinction.

Will, give Lexus another 80 years. By then, they'll be able to create a true ultra-luxury sedan.

The new S class is a beauty, its elegant and a treat to look at, it has the ultimate interior..It is the world greatest car..

Will, ask anyone else in the world.

You obviously haven't driven the new S550.

It's the world's best overall car.

It just is, no matter how you see it.

And does the "knock-off" interior matter, if it's absolutely gorgeous? I admit, not as gorgeous as the A8's, but it beats everything else in the class. I wouldn't mind owning a black-over-brown S550 4Matic AMG myself.

And did I ever say the S was the best-looking Mercedes?

I said it was the best-looking S-Class ever built. I thought the last generation was elegant but conservative. A lot like the new LS, except more Benz-like, of course.

I just don't understand how someone wouldn't want one, unless they already own one!

Please, Will... give me one reason to buy the LS460 over the S550, and I'll push my wife towards the nearest Lexus dealership. And you're not allowed to mention reliability, because the S-Class's reliability ratings haven't even been released yet, let alone the new LS. I can see that self-park system failing. Price isn't an issue. Just something, anything, about the car that you think would appeal to me on behalf of the other German car fans, over the S-Class.

I still can't understand what's so good about Lexus... their cars, in every segment except the LX's, are average at best...

IMO ::::::::::

For image, boldness, luxury, the S550 beats it in every level. Lexus has to jump into another market just to try to be the S-class. The LS long wheel base "limo" aka Maybach-like model for example. Why not just leave it the way it's supposed to be. Even if someone wanted to be driven in that LS, I'm sure someone would be more proud to own the S550 than to own an LS.

I like the IS,GS,& RX from Lexus but to say Lexus LS is better than S550 I have to argue against it. European luxury has much more heritage than Japanese luxury. Whoever has been in the game longer will definately have the edge. Why? Well one with heritage will be often immitated.
