Lamborghini Goes Back To The Future, Nixes Retro Design
According to UK publication CAR, Lamborghini’s retrosexual Miura concept from the 2006 North American International Auto Show is dead, and the Italian exotic will make a concerted effort to design with an eye toward the future going forward.

Further, Lamborghini bigwig Stephan Winkelmann has reportedly told the magazine that the company’s fabled old monikers (Espada, LM002, etc.) are unlikely to be recycled on future production models.

CAR indicates that prevailing logic has the next Lamborghini taking the form of a high-performance SUV built off of the grubby bits beneath Audi’s pending Q5 crossover.

If it beat the Ford GT to the punch maybe it would have had a chance

Not a fan of retro usually, but this wasn't that bad, as it combined retro and modern touches. Looking forward to more Lambos.

I don't think they should make another SUV... Lambo should stay away from anything even remotely mass-market, and I hope Audi recognizes this.

From the Gallardo and Murcielago's success (but not mass success), Audi has done a fantastic job managing the firm, but I hope they don't spoil it with an SUV. Maybe an ultra-sports sedan à la Quattroporte (with a bigger engine and a significantly higher price tag), but no SUVs.

Retro Designs are a cover for lack of Imagination for Future Designs, thus why we see so many Retro designs from Detroit,

Lamborghini would have made a huge mistake if they had approved this for Production.

Yes, and Walter D'Silva, the head designer of the Audi Group (Audi, Lamborghini and SEAT), has done an amazing job with the two Lambos. I saw a Murciélago in the city yesterday, and it's just as unbelievable as it was when it came out. I also saw an F430 and an Enzo (in the Bentley Gold Coast dealership). Both cool designs, for sure, but not as jarring as the Lambo, in a good way.

They have so much character to work with; I can't imagine what the next Murciélago will look like.
